Alma Loveres is a board-certified family nurse practitioner who strongly believes in establishing trusting relationships with patients to help prevent conditions such as hypertension and diabetes.

“It is important to establish care with a primary care provider before one gets sick in order to build a rapport and to develop trust,” she said. “Most importantly, it can help prevent illness in the first place, since regular care includes screening and education on prevention.”

Taking the team approach when it comes to her relationship with patients, Loveres encourages open dialogue, empowering patients to share their opinions and concerns. She provides patients with evidence-based education regarding their options in order to help them make informed decisions in their care.

“Listening to patients and empowering them to participate in their care is important to the success of any treatment,” she said.

Loveres is originally from Bosnia and Herzegovina. She moved to Tucson to be near family …already living here. She obtained her degree as a family nurse practitioner from the University of Phoenix.

Having the ability to travel and experience different cultures and customs has been her most valuable life experience.

“It has given me the ability to be sensitive to those with customs and values that differ from my own,” she said.
