Dr. Alok Sharma, MD

I presented Dr. Sharma with my first serious health problem a few months ago (after about 2 years of previous satisfactory but routine care): shortness of breath. He conducted a Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) that disclosed Severe Restrictive Lung Disease. However, instead of making an urgent referral to a pulmonologist on the basis of this result, he wrongly diagnosed that the root cause was my weight (my BMI shows only slightly obese, about the same as he is) and he declined to make an urgent referral, meaning it would take 3 or more months to see a specialist. Fortunately, I had access to other doctors who read those same PFT results differently, and got me an immediate visit with a different pulmonologist. In turn, that referral led to further testing which led to other specialist referrals. Shortly thereafter we arrived at the TRUE root cause: I was diagnosed with a partially paralyzed diaphragm, which in turn was due to a phrenic nerve injury, which was likely associated with my… severe spinal stenosis and spinal cord compression. These are all quite serious conditions that were completely missed by Sharma. Two weeks ago I had my first surgery (diaphragm plication) to correct my problems and may need yet to have spinal neurosurgery. If I had accepted Dr. Sharma’s erroneous medical judgments, I would still be languishing in distress and at risk instead of on the road to recovery. Worse still, when he originally declined to make the pulmonologist referral, I requested that he be sure to note his reluctance in my chart. He replied, “why are you getting so legalistic?” and shortly thereafter suggested that he would terminate his care of me and requested I secure a different PCP, which I did (why would I want such a troubled physician in charge of my care anyway?) If you care about getting quality, caring healthcare that will protect your health, stay far away from Dr. Sharma. Since I communicated my experience with officials in his practice, New Pueblo Medicine, with no satisfactory response, I would also warn you against New Pueblo.

I saw this doctor for almost a year, saw him many times. I wasn't to sure about him but after getting to know him I decided he isn't the type of doctor I want. He is very Moody doctor. If your the type of person that is active in your healthcare, and ask a lot of questions he will tell you your asking to many questions. If you don't agree with him. On what he said he gets very angry. I have experienced this with him. I think he needs to get some angry management therapy. If you tell him your not going to take a medicine because of side effects he will send you a very sarcastic email an brag about his 30 years experience, which I don't give a hoot a bout. I want a good doctor that will listen to what the patient said, they know their body better than the doctor e very person is differant . So her is the scoop if you don't ask question and do whatever he said you will do ok with this doctor. If your like me, I am more active in my healthcare this doctor would be a poor choice for you.… This review are facts from my own experience with this doctor.

I like Dr. Sharma I saw him about three times. Two were routine appointments and one was an emergency I Really can't give a accurate review because I only saw him a couple of times. But when I saw him regarding a bug bite on my face first thing he said oh that is shingles. I told him no it can't be didn't have a lot of pain like you would get from shingle the face was swollen and a little red. After I said that he told me oh you r right its not shingles it has to be an infection so than he treated it as an in infection. Another time he would say one thing and tell the MA something else and it would be different in the visit summary so I am kind of waiting to see what happens in the next couple appointments I have w with him. That is why I only gave him three stars. I am not totally convince yet that he should get five stars but he is a very nice doctor

I was running late to a pre scheduled Dr. Appointment with Dr. Sharma due to an uncontrolled unfortunate event. I was feeling ill & in real need to see the doctor. I called while in rout to the practice to let them know due to uncontrolled circumstances I was running late, they placed me on hold. When the secretary came back on the line she said Dr. Sharma needed me to schedule another appointment to see him. I advised secretary of my condition though she was firm with what Dr. Sharma had advised her. I continued to office location when arriving in disappointment I decided to end my relationship with Dr. Sharma, by requesting my patient records. Shortly after prior to receiving my records a letter comes in the mail explaining he would be the doctor for the last 30 days not explaining he had made a note in the system so I would be unable to see another doctor with in New Pueblo Medicine. When asked if I can transfer to another doctor I was advised as such by the staff. I did not find… his practice consistent with new pueblo's medicine set forth patient objectives, business goals, & or morals that where included with in a welcome package given to me when initially joined.

I just accompanied my husband to an appointment with Dr Sharma. He was fabulous! My husband had a lingering problem that was causing lots of pain. Dr Sharma listened carefully and thought about the probable causes before throwing out his thoughts and recommending an ex-ray and followup with a specialist. Dr Sharma called with the results on Christmas eve!!! We were shocked that he cared enough to call as soon as he got the results--even at 7 PM on Xmas eve! One more thing that really impressed us was that he didn't push expensive and unneeded tests. It's not easy to get a quick appointment, but if you ask the staff to run it by him to get in sooner he will make the time to see you ASAP. He even moved around other patients to see my husband ASAP! We believe Dr Sharma truly cares about his patients.

I'm not trusting of many doctors but I really do trust Dr Sharma. He spends lots of time going over everything, making sure your questions are answered. After each visit he provides a print out summary of the visit, including lab results, etc. He never seems rushed. He doesn't push pills. The front office staff seems a bit unfriendly though. I get the feeling that Dr Sharma really does care about his patients and he became a doctor for reasons other than money.

I have been to many many doctors in my life, as I have many health problems. I have never found a doctor as knowledgable or as caring as Dr. Alok Sharma. He is wonderful!!
