Dr. Alphonso Brenell Benton, MD

If i could give no stars, I would. Horrible service. Today, I took my father to an appointment with Dr. Benton, for which we waited 2 hours in the lobby before we were able to see him. The appointment was due to an issue my father had that made his feet swell. We also had documents to be completed for him by a physician so that he can get services provided that are provided to the elderly (ie. discounted fee for utilities and inhome care services). During my father's appointment, Dr. Benton immediately concerned himself with the documents and not with the initial reason we were there. He asked why we needed the forms filled out by him. When I explained, he stated that my father did not qualify for in home services and that he was not going to complete the forms. He also said that my father didn't need any discount for utilities. He stated that my father's health issues were family issues and not medical issues. He stated that we as a family needed to figure out how to care for… my father's daily necessities and not get help. He stated that my father's ailments were because he was lazy and from him making excuses and that he needed to exercise and that they weren't due to him actually having any real pain and discomfort. He told me to look in the mirror and I could find the cause of my father's ailments. He also stated that all we wanted was for the government to pay for him. We told him that my father had contiuous shortness of breath, couldn't stand or walk for long periods of time, his back hurts, and needed additional assistance when family couldn't be available to assist him. He also stated that if we couldn't get my father to and from that, we should get him an Uber or a Lyft. He told us that my father is not going to get better if he just sits around the house and watch TV all day. All the while, he never did the routine vitals. When I asked him about his foot, he asked why didn't I tell him. I then explained that he didn't allow for me to tell him why we were at the appointment because he was too concerned about the documents. He still did not look at my father's feet or try to figure out a remedy or diagnosis. He was extremely rude, dismissive, and appeared to not care about my father. He also compared my father to him, saying, "I live alone," "I'm getting older," and I'm here working. This was my second time going with my father with Dr. Benton for an appointment. He was very unprofessional, and his behavior was erratic. We are changing my father's doctor. Do not schedule an appointment with Dr. Benton unless you want to be treated as such.

In my 50s, I am a woman with chronic conditions. With DR. BENTON 'S help, I remain mostly healthy and strong to this day. I usually do walk ins, same day, and next day appointments. My recent visit was the same as the other previous ones. It was productive and successful from start to finish. Like usual, DR. BENTON had encouraged me to be my own health advocate and did not treat me like some hypochondriac by paying attention to me as I talked a lot and asked many questions. No question is treated like a dumb question. All questions are answered fully. I received plenty of excellent advice. As always, I left feeling better and had the rest of the day to complete other daily goals. I have been going to DR. BENTON for 10 years. Before finding CompCare through a referral from my medical insurance company, I was changing doctors every one to two months over a period of eight months because of my poor experiences with them. Before experiencing these six previous doctors, I did not have… health insurance during most of my adult life and did not go to the doctor at all.

Absolutely the worst experience ever with a PCP office! Saw Dr. Benton once, he put me on blood pressure medicine at that visit and when I specifically asked him if he wanted to see me back in a few months to follow up he said that would not be necessary. No problem I figured, for two years he approved the refills without once asking to see me. Then one day last week my pharmacist tells me the doctor declined the refill, I call his office and speak to the female receptionist. That’s just the start. She explains he can’t refill the rx since it’s been two years, well I kinda figured that, and as soon as I started to explain that Dr. Benton didn’t want to see me for two years and that I have different insurance now, she immediately places me on hold with no warning at all. Then after a few minutes she comes back and says she thought I was being rude to her and if I wanted her to look at my chart she didn’t need any further explanation from me. Literally her words! She would not even let… me explain that I had new insurance and the reason I was calling was to let Dr. Benton know that I simply needed a 30 day supply as is standard medical practice until I find a new provider (that was the whole point of me calling, but she never even let me get there). She then HANGS UP ON ME when I try to speak again, I call back three times to ask to speak with someone else and she puts me on hold each time without saying a single word and then hangs up the call each time. A person like this should never be allowed to interact with patients! She REFUSED to give me her name when I let her know that I have NEVER been treated this way by anyone and would be leaving my first review so others know how they may be treated here. Glad I decided to switch doctor’s in the first place now after reading Dr. Benton’s disciplinary record on the Medical Board of California’s website. He’s left me without blood pressure medicine now and his “receptionist” hung up on me multiple times. Completely unprofessional and unethical!

The best Doctor, all-time!!

This place is a joke! AVOID! HORRIBLE STAFF EXPERIENCE AND WORSE DOCTOR EXPERIENCE !!! I came here for the first time last Friday the 22nd they lied and set me up with a doctor assistant ! Didn’t see the doctor although he was there… the assistant prescribed me over the counter ibuprofen for my symptoms… She even didn’t Afrin is was had to research it! She said that if my symptoms got worse to call her and she will prescribe me something for my cough. When I called to ask they said she left and won’t be back for two weeks and that I had had to come in for a visit. Came back on Thursday the 28th. I asked the front desk Giselle, if my insurance might cover the visit since it was not my fault that the assistant took a two week vacation. She immediately yelled at me and said that all doctor visits must be paid! I was astonished at the level of customer service and response I received. I asked for her name, she was giving bad attitude. I told her that she was rude as she was… vigorously talking to me, and that I was going to write a bad review about her after the visit. I waited to see the doctor in the room and he came in immediately accusing me of being rude with his front desk person, he wouldn’t let me speak and explain what had happened. Finally I couldn’t take it and told him to check his video tapes and listen and see what really happened. He was yelling and screaming and I was so embarrassed and disgusted of his behavior I got a refund and left! You can tell that this place has a bad company culture and Alphonso Benton and his staff do not know how to treat clients! Probably why they have so many bad reviews online! THIS DR. (ALPHONSO BENTON M.D. ) PRACTICE IS A COMPLETE JOKE AND SHOULD BE NON-OPERATIONAL! THESE PEOPLE ARE HARASSING THEIR CLIENTS! AVOID AT ALL COSTS TO MATTER HOW CONVENIENT THE DISTANCE IS FROM YOU.

I visited Dr. Benton yesterday due to palpitation, he is very compassionate and very nice in explaining to me regarding my illness, after I talked to him my fear of a heart attack is totally gone, I will surely recommend him to my friends and relatives, the staffs are also very courteous,

The most memorable thing about Dr Benton is his compassion, openness to questions and discussion of issue at hand as well as ALL his "well rounded" knowledge and experience being a Sports Med Doc !!! Staff is VERY Efficient, Helpful and Friendly !!!

The doctors and staff are excellent, I can always get in quickly, and never wait long. The only bad experience we have ever had is with one person who answers the phone when we make an appointment who tends to give unwanted advise, but if you ignore them and make an appointment, you will not be disappointed.

Dr. Benton was very good with helping with my treatment. His staff was considerate as well.

Never meet the doctor just pa's. And office staff. Referrals to other doctors are are their way of treating patients. One pa"get your cholesterol down or I' 'll put u on something" threaten with meds. Nice way to treat people.
