Dr. Ameet Aaron Ravital, PhD

I saw Dr. Ameet for two years in Philadelphia and stopped going because I moved to NYC. 3 years later I still rave about him from afar and wish I had a clone of him in the big city. He is friendly, patient, wise, and I loved that he knew how visual I was, so he would use his white board to break things down or provide illustrative metaphors to assist me. I highly recommend.

Ameet clarified my doubts and can figure out problem areas. He also teaches mindfulness very well.

If you're looking for a therapist that believes going to the gym is the ONLY way to help with underlying issues of Depression/Anxiety and OCD, then Ameet is your man! He does not believe in psychiatric medicine in helping with these issues and that's clearly shown through his articles on psychiatric medicine on his website (ravitalhome.com). I was a former client that sufferers from Depression/Anxiety and OCD. I told Ameet in our 1st session that I wanted to work on 3 main things: planning out a complete day and putting it on paper, issues related to dealing with death and my struggles in finding and meeting women online and in person. Instead of actually looking into these issues and discussing them in detail with me, I was told from the 1st session that the gym could help solve a lot of these issues. I told Ameet that my main struggle that was leading to my depression was my struggles in meeting women online and in person and instead of actually looking into why this is or… even looking at my online dating profile, I was repeatedly told by Ameet that the gym could help solve the problem. After my 3rd session with Ameet and after going to the gym once since we first started meeting, I was immediately asked when I could go to the gym again and how many times per week I could get to the gym. After telling Ameet I could only see myself making it to gym at most, once a week, I was immediately told that Ameet did not think therapy was beneficial and did not want to continue therapy with me. Mind you, we still never discussed any of my other underlying issues relating to death and the issues with finding and meeting women and we never even attempted to write out and plan a complete day. But because I could not make a more committed effort to go to gym, Ameet was no longer interested in seeing me. Please note that Ameet helps run a weekly DBT therapy group that is $60/session with another DBT therpaist named Sarah Rosenbaum. The kicker is that the DBT group is a year long group and you are charged for every session even i f there's a legitimate excuse for why you cannot attend or even if you tell the group leaders that you cannot attend the group in advance. So if you don't have almost $3,000 to fork up for the year, it's a waste! And all group sessions and individual sessions are not covered by insurance and are out-of-network.
