Dr. Ami Shah Behara, MD

I had colonoscopy done with Dr. Behara and my experience with this doctor are one of the worst I ever had with any doctors.

I visited Dr. Behara after waiting for months to get an appointment. I was having a variety of stomach issues and symptoms that have been occurring for years. When I finally got in to see Dr. Behara, she was nice enough, but did not seem to really care about getting to the bottom of my concerns. I told her about how my symptoms were affecting my daily life, and she chalked all of them up to constipation and suggested taking benefiber for three weeks, which I had already tried multiple times prior to my appointment. She had me tested for celiac's despite telling me she didn't think that's what it was (it wasn't). I tried following up to make another appointment when my symptoms did not subside but it was very difficult to get in touch with someone and I have not been able to make an appointment. I am now searching for a new gastroenterologist who genuinely cares about getting to the bottom of my issues and will follow up with me.

I'm impressed with Dr. Behara, she has a great bedside manner and easy to talk to about things like these. I was also impressed with the promptness of personal phone calls she provided to discuss results from tests. She is a doctor that thinks through different approaches to attack an illness or disease, instead of the same old methods. I highly recommend Dr. Behara.

I truly believe that Dr. Behara is doing unnecessary colonoscopies. I had undergone that procedure to be diagnosed with diverticulosis, which ended up being the answer to the problems I was having. However, I could have had diagnostic imaging tests that would have diagnosed me. Instead she wanted me to risk my life and have a very invasive surgery. After doing extensive research and talking to other people about diverticulosis, my symptoms should have prompted for the imaging tests firsts. Instead of thinking about the patient, Dr. Ami Behara was thinking profits. Shame on NCH hospital for supporting doctors with this type of thinking.
