Dr. Amit D Desai, MD

Dr. Desai is a board-certified Psychiatrist who specializes in child and adolescent psychiatry. He has worked in a wide variety of treatment settings throughout his training and career, using a multi-disciplinary and holistic approach along with evidence-based treatments.In the spirit of a holistic approach, the center of Dr. Desai’s treatment plan centers upon the therapeutic alliance in which he makes an effort to understand the needs of not only the patient but the entire family unit. He believes in open, honest communication along with providing patients and families the time they need in order to fully understand and comprehend the challenges they face. He is passionate about empowering patients and families with knowledge, education, and resources and creating a treatment plan using both pharmacological and non-pharmacological intervention to help his patients reach their goals. He is ever mindful that each patient and family has its unique challenges, and his treatment plans …are customized specifically to each patient encounter.Dr. Desai’s specialties include, but are not limited to, a wide variety of psychiatric illnesses, including mood disorders, anxious distress, psychosis, eating disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, trauma-related disorders, as well as behavioral and sleep disturbances. Dr. Desai has also been trained in Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and incorporates those therapeutic techniques in his day-to-day appointments.Dr. Desai graduated from Ross University and has trained at the Louisiana State University Health Science Center in Shreveport Louisiana and a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.Dr. Desai has recently moved back to the Bay Area to be closer to his nieces, along with his family. In his free time, Dr. Desai likes to collect diecast cars and airplanes, paint miniature figurines, and watch sports.
