Dr. Amy Helen Bilka, PhD

I've had my fair share of therapists, and they've ranged from kind and helpful to mean, abusive, and crazier than the people they treat! Dr Bilka is incredibly kind and compassionate, yet maintains professional boundaries and decorum without being cold or aloof. She quickly learns your personal triggers and boundaries and respects them. She'll return a hug but never be the first to initiate it (which is good because some days I really need one and others I don't want to be touched!). She's open and honest, even telling me if something I do or say offends her (which I do when I'm furiously venting). She'll never bring up her personal issues, yet if I ask her a personal question or something emotional, she'll answer sincerely but succinctly, gently returning the conversation to my issues, yet without snapping "That's none of your business!" She's extremely balanced and has so far never mistreated me, been negligent, or made me feel dehumanized or invalidated. I honestly don't know what I… would have done without her stabilizing and healing influence in my life. Anyone who needs compassion, empathy, support, and a stable and ethical therapist should see her.
