Dr. Amy E Foxx-Orenstein, DO

I have seen Dr Foxx-Orenstein several times In the past several years. She has always been professional, caring, and extremely thorough. She has returned phone calls and answered my questions. I could not have had better care and will continue to see her as needed.a I consider her to be an excellent doctor.

This person performed a colonoscopy on me and removed 8 polyps. 12 hours later I bled out passing out on the bathroom floor at home, breaking 2 bones in my left foot.. I managed to wake up an hour later and passed out in the tub, waking up when the shower water was cold. I was taken to Mayo emergency, and they had to go up and stop the bleeding. The attending physician removed 2 more polyps. Recommended anual colonoscopy , but would not allow me to change doctors.

I had seen this doctor in hopes for a rough time I was going through. While she did identify that I had Gastroparesis, she also found it funny that I have a case of Tourettes. As I hope many of you reading this know, not many people (only a handful) have the kind where you yell out obscenities which is upsetting to the patient. I do NOT have that but vocal and motor tics. She had the audacity to mimic my Tourettes. She then talked about how she couldn't wait for me to drop the "F-Bomb". Making fun of disabilities and to the patient that has it is absolutely disgusting. I was in tears. The other staff were polite and a couple said they weren't the least bit surprised. When I made the complaint, they said they believe the doctor vs. the patient, and that's liaison services. Luckily I had a family members there as well and as she continued to make fun of my Tourettes we discretely got a recording via a phone the other family member did, just acting like they were viewing a website or… game. That was enough to get her really infuriated but they reprimanded her with a warning. Then I said I would not go back to her after it happened. They said once you have a team member doctor you cannot switch even though there were several doctors to choose from. She never apologized and my experience with Mayo Clinic is no more. She was verbally abusive about Tourettes. I will never put up with that kind of mis-treatment. I have since found an outside GI doctor. I'm still embarrassed and ashamed even more when I go to new specialists because of what she did. I have seen a counselor who has Tourettes and he is helping me on what to say. Luckily no other doctors have joked about my disability and made fun of it. Heartless. Do NOT go to her if you have a disability. I guess differently abled people are humorous in her mind.

I read Dr Foxx-Orenstein's reviews online, many of which were not good! I decided to give our visit a chance anyway and the first appointment was great. She was thorough and made me laugh. On the second visit, her personality was a lot different. I had gotten an infection (C. Diff) and had to spend a week in the hospital/ICU as a result of some antibiotics that her team had prescribed. I don't blame any of them- infections happen! But I did tell her that I wish they had discussed with me how high risk I was to catch C Diff again (I'd had it before and had told them). When I told her that, she literally went off. She yelled a lot and was saying that I have been sick long enough to know I was high-risk and it was no one's fault but my own (I'd gone kayaking and had to get airlifted to a hospital when I got sick). I was shocked by her statement and started crying. That seemed to make her even more angry and she said "I think we're done here." I told her I had done everything… she'd told me to do but I didn't think I deserved to be talked to that way.

My experience was very negative. She talks down to you, is degrading, and absent of compassion.

This woman was SO degrading. My mother was even in shock. I have never been able to walk into Mayo Clinic again w/out bursting into tears. I have never received an apology just horrid excuses. I will never be returning to her & if anyone inquires w/me about going to her for eval etc. they know my opinion solely by seeing my expression. 1 of the doctors that made my faith in medical personnel the lowest it could ever be. IF there were negative stars that is where I'd be rating her at. At least the other staff I interacted with were not of her attitude, so that is the only reason that any of this rating gets 2 stars. Incomprehensible.

Extremely rude, arrogant, with very poor professional bed-side manner that literally recommended a surgery that would solve all of my problems and misrepresented reason and possible outcomes. I would never have allowed the surgery if she would have told me if it didnt work i would be left worse off than before the surgery. After the surgery was done and it wasnt working and I was getting worse, she blamed me for my problems and said it was my fault and then hoped I would go away. I found out after the surgery there was no game plan and there never had been. If i could have; I would have sued her for everything she had. She ruined my life and got away with it.

Dr. Foxx-Orenstein is distracted. She prioritizes her own experimental ideas without transparency. She did not provide me any alternative treatment options and lacked any sense of urgency in seeking my betterment. She is biased, self-involved, and callous. She does not follow up with patients and is complacent to their on-going health concerns. I felt hopeless and exhausted as her patient.
