Dr. Amy Lynn Thomas, MD

I needed to see a Dr. and since I had been going to one of the group for the last 10 years I called to make an appointment. They assigned me to The PA who is excellent so I said ok.... I had recently been there to get a check up and was told to get some vaccines that they didn’t have (?), they recommended I go to the drugstore and get it there. No problem there; I happily left thinking that I would do as I was told and check back with them next time I had to go there. Fast forward to a few months later I called for an appointment because I had a bug bite in Canada and thought I had symptoms for Lyme Disease. The staff who was making appointments would not give me an appointment unless I gave her my insurance number. That would be fine except I was at work and forgot my card; but since I was a regular patient there I knew they could look it up. But she refused and stated that I wasn’t a patient there ; and that because I had seen the PA last visit, I was not a patient of either… Scott or Amy Thomas. This went around and around until I was given to the supervisor and she was equally as difficult. I am simply saying that this was very poor customer service and that I am not a new patient to a Dr. simply because i hadn’t visited there in the last 3 months. I am a capable human being . I am not a number and do not want to be treated like one. These people need to seriously reflect on their “policies”. I never chose to see Amy, Scott or Ashly I was simply assigned. I am easy going enough to say ok because I had always enjoyed the practice there. But this was inexcusable! They finally told me that they would “hold” an appointment for me and I needed to call back with the information to have it. Naturally, I cancelled my appointment....will not go back there ! Even after 10 years ...it’s rather sad too because I did like each caregiver.

My husband and I both went to each Dr. Thomas. As others have said the rules are ridiculous and rude. I met an ex-employee while getting bloodwork done who encouraged me to find another doctor. The rules for staff were even worse. All of the stress they feel makes for bad service. Need doctors who care for patients and not just their profit. Call of the one complaint per visit is just about making more money.

I had a new patient visit and I tried my possible best to be in time. I arrived at the location according to my GPS but later found out that the clinic is located a crow the street. The building number was not visible to the street and I believe this is something the office staff should have hinted me as a new patient. I arrived at your office and I was nicely told that I will not be seen. I told the young lady that I have lost over 30lbs in the last few months and this experience only makes it worse. I am not sure if you understand that you harm your patients more with such approach especially after explaining that I got lost. I hope you evalute your policy.

Dr. Amy Thomas is fantastic. After a lifetime of questionable healthcare services, she is thorough, kind, and the best doctor I've ever seen. A few times I have needed specialist care and she makes that easy.

Dr Amy Thomas has been my PCP for about 6 1/2 years now. I have been very satisfied with the medical care she has provided to me. It must be common practice for all doctors to spend minimum time with patients and she is no different. Always appears to be in a hurry, however, she makes up the time when she answers questions on the patient portal. I might add, if your health condition appears to be serious, she does take the time needed to make a referral, diagnosis, or proper medication Rx given. I trust her medical advice and treatment.

Our family (including several children) have been going here for years. The staff has always been nice! They do work with efficiency in order to keep appts on time. We rarely have to wait more than a few minutes, which is great with impatient, young children. She is honest and upfront, but will take the time needed to explain things. Has been amazingly quick to reply to questions on the patient portal and staff has been fast about forwarding copies of lab work to other offices.

Reading the other reviews, I was hesitant to go to this doctor, but she had early morning and lunch appointments which worked well for my schedule. The wait for the first appointment was long, but after that, they have been able to get me in often the same day I call. My schedule is tight, so I was shocked when I was seen on time- usually I have to wait hours. Regarding the other reviews, having worked in a medical office, it's customary to pay the doctor for services given, so expect to have to pay my doctor bill. Also, as for having to sometimes make separate appointments for different things, I think it's okay to ask the patient to commit to what the original appointment was for. I mean, if you schedule a haircut with your stylist, but show up to the appointment and want highlights too, you can't expect that they will have time for that. They have a lot of "rules", but they make sense to me being in the medical field. Everyone has different needs and experiences, so I just… wanted to share a different perspective to the other reviews. Overall, I'm glad I chose this doctor.

If you need a same day appointment the office is not usually able to accommodate you. They have a written statement when you check-in that you will only be seen for what you made appointment. For example I went in for a diabetes medication check but the day before started having a fever and was sick. She did not address my illness and was told I would have to make another appointment. I ended up at a med clinic to find out I had strep throat. It makes you feel like they do not care for you as a patient only a number. The office closes quite frequently in addition to already having limited weekday hours. The staff is not friendly or helpful.

Asked doctor to give me nebulizer instead of inhaler she refused. I called back saying I prefer inhaler please call it in. Office called back saying studies show it is the same. I said it works better for me, they said they will talk to doctor. Next phone call was a message to call back. I had to call back for them to tell me fine they will call in the prescription. It was ridiculous waste of my time. Doctor always seems in a hurry even though at the end of day office was empty. Asked to order urine analysis because my other doctor was too far for me to drive. She refused and told me to go see that doctor. I refuse to ever go back. What a horrible experience that was. Should have read other reviews on google would not have gone this time. Too many good doctors out this is just not one of them.

I too was told by this office that I am "no longer able to obtain care at Alamo Family Practice...due to words and/or actions that have comprimised the patient/physician relationship" (from letter sent to me via USPS mail.) It was an issue with the staff, not with the doctor, just as previous reviewer. But they take their direction from the Doctor, so...The office staff is rude, and if you need to see the Dr. the same day due to emergency and question why not, you too will need to find a new doctor. Not worth the hassle. Strange practices, such as having to give your insurance info each time you call for an appointment, even if your established and nothing has changed. Can't make appointment if any previous balance due on your account; they will not let you pay when you come in for your appointment, must make payment over phone. Makes for an uncomfortable, untrusting atmosphere, which is sad, because doctor/patient relationship is nothing without trust.
