Dr. Andrea Marie Harriott, MD

Over the years I have seen many neurologists at MGH after having neurosurgery. All providers have been excellent, not sure how Dr. Harriott has been given the honor to work among them. Her care was so lacking that I feel responsible to prevent others from experiencing what I did. Dr. Harriott's bedside manner was the worst I've ever encountered. She was cold and dismissive and made me feel like like she couldn't spare the time or effort to answer a single question. Her lack of attention to detail and willingness to engage in discussion is irresponsible, especially considering she has chosen to practice in the field of neurology. You would be better off seeing a neurologist with less experience, in a less reputable setting than receiving her care.

I saw finally Dr. Harriot, and I had to balance out the other review on this site. Having a complicated and confusing set of diagnoses and having seen many specialists, I can say that meeting with Dr. Harriot has changed my life. I felt like we had as much time as we needed, and she really listened. She does research a significant amount of her time at Mass General so she is extremely up-to-date on the latest thinking about stroke and migraine. She described what is happening in the brain during migraine aura, and it was such a relief to hear that so that I don’t have to be scared when I have these scary stroke like symptoms. That said, she was straight forward about risks. She also was very practical about treatment options and respected the fact that I prefer a lifestyle changes over medication, while also providing me with medication options. It takes a really long time to see her because of her schedule, but it is worth the wait.

This doctor has a terrible bedside manner. She seemed uninterested in speaking to me like I was a human being. She basically went through my visit like she was asking me questions off a checklist. She was uninterested in any relevant information I tried to share and dismissive of my reports of new symptoms. Additionally, scheduling with her was a nightmare. I would put up with the scheduling issues if the visit itself was worth it, but honestly am worried that she would brush off important aspects of my health. If you can see someone else, do so.
