Dr. Andrew Benn, MD

I appreciate Dr. Benn's thoroughness, skill in listening and mastery of his specialty. He is cardiologist to me and another family member and we always feel confident we are getting great care. He is fun but absolutely serious and clear when needed to be sure we follow protocols correctly. The entire practice has been efficient and kind every time. Their most recent upgrades to electronic filing have made everything run more quickly and efficiently. The wait time is next to nothing now.

He was recommended to both my husband and I after we had bouts of atrial fibrillation. He always is on top of the latest treatments and knows how to get your information without taking up a lot of time. Excellent manner and is funny too!

I have been a patient of Dr. Benn for over 3 years, and I have nothing but good things to say about his professionalism as a cardiologist. His knowledge is unparalleled and he always takes the time to explain each issue in clear detail. However, I cannot say the same about his incompetent support (clerical) staff. I have probably made a dozen phone contacts with his office over the past few years, and only every occasion, there has been a screw up at their end. This can take any of the following forms: 1) I call to either make or confirm an appointment, and the receptionist/appointment staffer insists that they have no idea who I am -- there is no record of me in "the system". After several requests that she "check again", my record is found â?¦ and the typical excuse given is that they have a "new system" that they are still learning. (Apparently they have been "learning" to use the new system for over 3 years. 2) The person who has the answer to my question is "out of… the office", but I'm told that the message will be given to him/her when they return and that I will receive a return call in a timely fashion. This never happens. 3) One of my prescriptions required another authorization for refills, and my pharmacy is unable to get anyone at the office on the line, faxes are ignored, voice messages ignored. If I call to expedite, I also am kicked into voice mail limbo. It ends up taking over 2 weeks to get the refills authorized. 4) I call to get information regarding a scheduled procedure (at Dr. Benn's request) to be done at a different clinic, and either Benn's staff claims that they have no knowledge of the scheduled procedure, or they give me the wrong address â?¦ more than once, or once again they cannot find my records in "the system". On one occasion, when I arrived at the clinic for the scheduled procedure, I learned that Benn's staff neglected to send over my medical records and/or the authorization for the procedure. So I had to sit around for an extra hour while efforts were made to get someone at Benn's office to actually answer the phone. In short, if you do not have a serious heart condition before dealing with Dr. Benn's inept clerical staff, you most like WILL have heart problems afterwards.
