Dr. Andrew Gregory Monroy, MD

Dr. Monroy is easy to talk to and cares about his patients. He is good at asking comprehensive questions that are individualized to the specific condition that his patient is in need of help with and doesn't make you feel that you are in a patient mill. He has always been professional when I went to see him and I have read other reviews that almost appear as personal vendettas against a doctor who wouldn't fill their prescriptions to their specifications. Bottom line is that he has done no harm and continues to care about the quality of life for ALL of his patients.

I saw Dr Andrew monroy for quite some time due to a low back injury and my neck was broken 03. At 1 appointment I saw him , I just had an appointment around 1 in the afternoon sat and waited and waited , A lady in the back finally came out and was turn the sign around on the door and close the blinds , I was the only person in there she asked who I was waiting for . I told her I had an appointment at 1, many times I sat in his office for hours waiting for my appointment he always triple booked the waiting room was jammed with people. She then open the front door and ran outside , I not knowing what was going on I got up and looked through the blinds and saw that dr. Monroy was leaving his parking spot . I could hear her say you have patient stillwaiting inside ,he pulled back in the parking spot ,she took me into the back he said hi wrote my script and that was that. He had me at one time go to his other office down in Santa Maria ,California for a low-back procedure . I had to have… a blocker done , he explained to me he was putting in 3 on one side of my vertebrae's and 3 on the other I asked prior to this if I needed a driver he said no he had many people I had done this procedure without getting sedated and driving their selves home . so when I went into the back and they laid me down on my stomach and proceeded to put my six injections in . On the very first one I was screaming to stop please stop he ignored me , I just had one , I was coming off the table arching my body upwards asking them to please stop. He did three of these on one side .Because of me moving so much and I was crying severely he stopped the procedure he said the reason why he didn't stop on the first one was he wanted to find out how a patient reacted to this procedure without being sedated , and wanted to find out when I was in the recovery room if I could feel any difference all his other patients couldn't tell him he said because they had been sedated as I was waiting in the recovery room a nurse came in she told me she was going to report him for what he did that they had never had any patient come in without a driver the pain I went through was unbearable I could not believe hearing this I would never do this again even with being sedated just knowing what he did to me. A short time later I went in on one of my appointments in arroyo Grande and found his office was abandoned doors were locked I could not believe the rumors I heard running around along with that quite a few people had said to me that he had been selling pain meds up at arroyo Grande Walmart out of his car and then he just disappeared I just now am writing this review because I had wondered where he had gone and what had happened I'm actually glad to see that he lost his license he was not very caring other than I think looking out for the money there. There's so many rumors going around in his office about him and other girls and then one of them he married they had a baby and all the people there we're doing drugs pain meds from his office along with him even though it's been years that have passed . all the people that have had to go cold turkey stopping the meds having withdrawals getting sick I think a class action suit is doable.to me he was a very uncaring doctor to have done what he did to this patient's it sounds more like it was all about money and greed and if he was making a lot of money which she had to have been I think the entitlement should go to the people that he victimized along with the procedure he did on my low back without me being sedated was just unbelievable.

He was easy to see and listened very well to my problems. He is one of the better doctors I've ever seen. He treated me like a person rather than a number. I would recommend him to anyone who wants to see a real doctor

I have been an intractable pain patient for the better part of 25 years.Before locating a pain management doctor I was making several trips to the emergency room, begging for any type of pain relief.I was very fortunate to have found a Dr. Forrest Tennet who was I later learned a pioneer in pain research and management.He and every other pain management doctor I have seen never over medicated me, or any other pain patients.As Dr. Tennent said, "only the patient can say how much medication is needed to control their pain".So, if a patient is telling the doctor they need more when in truth they don't, then that's on them.So don't go placing blame on a doctor who is there to only help you.Many doctors who know little or nothing about intractable pain are quick to get what is refereed too as "Opeia Phobia"Believing any doctor who prescribes pain medication in any quantity is over medicating.Dr. Tennet sold his practice and the doctor who bought it died after treating me and others for… some eight years.Finding another pain specialist was nearly impossible.I and others were very fortunate to have found Dr. Monroy, he has proved to be very caring and thorough.In California the Pain Patients Bill of Rights Act has been passed.Basically what it says is that any person who is suffering from intractable pain and go's to a doctor seeking relief should be treated by that doctor and given pain medication.If the doctor is not comfortable in doing so, then the doctor needs to tell the patient where he can find a pain management doctor who will treat them.The definition of intractable pain means that it's condition which there is no known cure, a pain that is relentless with no known cause, aside form perhaps injuries that have been caused due to an accident or something.For those such as myself who were bed ridden, without any quality of life to speak of before getting relief from pain can understand what I'm saying, and for those who have never suffered this condition could never understand what constant pain does to a persons way of life. it would be the same as trying to explain to a blind person what a sunset looks like,"it would be impossible"As far as Dr. Monroy, for those who are quick to judge and condemn, I would say, "those without sin, let them be first to cast the first stone".

LOVED Dr. Monroy. Did not undertand nasty Cassandra. Miss all the lost staff. What a mess. He really seemed to sincerely care but was totally influenced and pressured by hs new in office medical assistant wife- who seemed to despise all us patients. Never have I ever seen anyone with such horrible, profane and aggressive personality (disorder?) they were like Jekyll and Hyde and eventually she ruined him and many others lives.

Worst doctor ever. All patients had to wait at least 3-4 hrs. every time you saw him. Not to mention his horrible wife who he married in the office. She was his down fall to his practice. I guess if i had to live or work with her, i would take medicine tooooo.

Dr. Monroy is a very good Doctor and always treated me with respect. I was examined at ever app. He has a wonderful bedside manner and always did right by me.

Any patient that waits 2-3hrs to see a pain doc when there are many others in the county to see, is waiting for medication they know they cant get elsewhere. For those of you who think you were over medicated...PLEASE take responsibility for yourself! Ive had 4 back surgeries and 1 full hip replacement at age 42. Doctor Monroy gave me what I asked for and truth is I could have dealt with more pain and less medication. I know this for a fact since I am now having to do that. That is not his fault that would be my weekness and lack of self responsibility to do whatever else needed that did not require medication.. YOU KNOW??? Like exercise, eat better, maybe get a second opinion, anything.... There are many options if you want to find them. But NO its way to easy to blame a doctor and just shove more meds into your system. Biggest problem in this country right now is how accepted it is to blame everyone else. Yes Monroy will pay for his part but so should those patients that chose… to go to him for yrs when they could have seen another doc.

although i stopped seeing him aroung 2008 he was a good doctor to me.i see alot of complaints here ,but i never really had those bad expierences others have had.the staff in the begining was good to me.i learned to schedule my apointment in the morning=opening or right after lunch.he always had good manners and seemed to care about my back issues.I think the staff at the end wasnt so good though.after i started seeing new employees around the ofice i noticed a drop in the quality there.I see alot of people complaining about not knowing he closed.In all fairness he was raided(?) so i imagine this wasnt planned for him either.As far as medication goes some people claim over medication,were you overpresribed or overtaking? The pharmecy usuallt catches on to overprecribed medications and wont allow you to get them .Also realize medication is diferent for everyone,what may make you pass out may not impair another in that way etc.last but not least i do agree there were some shady people i… would see at my visits there.I was told he gave out medical marijuana scripts.this may be part of it,the other being the stronger medications he prescribed.I hope the best for him,prisons no laughing matter,not for anyone.

dr monroy is a faboulous dr. miss him greatly, i see now even really how great he was when i see the doctor, they gave us for a replacement, hes not very nice, not caring, and has no care for his patients,not like dr, monroy and his office is super small, nowhere to sit, a mile to hike up the hill, not very fun with pain, wow all you complainers id rather wait 10 hours to have dr monroy back any day, so all you complainers of such minute problems, how you like your replacement bet you wished you would of respected what you had now huh
