Dr. Andrew Richard Newberg, MD

I have been seeing Dr. Newberg for a little over a year now, and I like him a lot. I have moved every couple of years for work, so have had many doctors over the last twenty years, and Dr. Newberg is one of the best. He's really focused on my health, and lately when I've been in a serious crisis related to my bipolar, he's been extra careful with me, and worked me into his schedule for the extra appointments I have needed. As an added bonus, his office runs on time. If you need help, this is a good and safe place to find it.

I have seen other docs in the past. What stands out with Dr Newberg is that he is always kind, receptive, and compassionate. I feel better and he helped with this. Thank you

Dr. Newberg is very knowledgeable and has amazing credentials but do not let this fool you. I started seeing him as I was having thoughts of harming myself and suicide. The medication plan he mapped out for me did not work. My depression actually became worse and so did my anxiety. I noticed during our sessions, he would describe numerous medications to me, then he would sit back and ask me which ones I wanted to try. Of course I can give an opinion as to which ones sound like they would work but ultimately, I need my doctor to decide. Even though I am no stranger to depression, I'm no doctor. His bedside manner is very odd. He will tell you which meds he thinks are best for you, then he will ask you which ones you would like to try. Taking his information, you then tell him which ones you think you'd like to try and he will then argue with you, every time. It's a very round about and confusing way of medication management. His response time to phone calls or having him paged… is lacking. He can take up to two days to call you back and when your anxiety has you climbing up the walls and you are thinking of cutting yourself, that is not acceptable. My husband sees another doctor in this practice and when this doctor was on vacation, Newberg was the doctor on call. My husband called in to have his medication re-filled and Newberg never called him back. His staff is also very cold and very rude. There are two women that work the front desk who consistently treat patients as though they are a nuisance. They never smile and honestly just seem to hate their job (maybe they do). The most disturbing thing about my time under Dr. Newberg's care is that when my anxiety became too great for me to handle, I spoke with him about taking a week or so off of work to rest. He said a week would be good but no longer as routine was important and I agreed. I wanted to provide a letter to my management documenting this. I asked Dr. Newberg for a very basic letter on letterhead explaining that due to anxiety, I would be taking a small amount of time off of work (it honestly could have been 3 sentences, I wasn't asking for much, just a something to hand into work explaining my absence). Rather than writing a letter for me, he told me he would send my session notes and my progress charts to my boss, basically, my entire file. I have never heard of such a thing. Discussions of suicide, family history, and lists of medications I've been on and am currently on are NOT things I ever want a boss to see unless I truly am losing my mind and can no longer work. But for just 5 days off to take a small breather? He told me it was easier for him to have his staff send my file to my boss rather than having to sit down and right a letter. When he realized this was not acceptable to me, he relented and said if I wanted to come in that day or the following day (so that we could write the letter together) that's when I realized he was truly just trying to get me into his office so he could charge me for a visit. Very sneaky. This said to me "I don't care about your condition, I just need to physically get you in here so I can bill you". I would not recommend him at all. He is very odd and his staff is awful.
