Summary

Dr. Andrew W. Ryan, M.D., joined Lexington Orthopaedic Associates in 1996. Originally from Indiana, he attended Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, graduating with an A.B. in mathematics (cum laude) in 1984. After studying in Indianapolis for four years, he received his M.D. in 1988 from the Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed his Internship in Surgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and also served an additional year as Junior Assistant Resident between 1988 and 1990. He then obtained his medical license in Kentucky and worked at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center as an emergency physician from 1990 to 1991. He and his wife then moved to Columbus, Ohio, for a five year orthopedic residency program at The Ohio State University Hospitals from 1991 to 1996.

Dr. Ryan has been active with the Kentucky Orthopedic Society andplans to serve as vice president from 2007 to 2009, and then president of the KOS from 2009 to 2011. He has delivered lectures on biomechanics of the golf swing, as well as analysis of new orthopedic materials. He has research interests in golf theory and decision making for surgeons. He considers his practice motto to be: Saving the world one limb at a time.

Dr. Ryan is experienced in surgical and nonoperative management of conditions involving the shoulder, elbow, hands, hips, knees, and feet. His most common procedures include arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder; carpal tunnel surgery and other minor hand surgery; total joint replacement of the knee hip and shoulder.

Dr. Ryan and his partners at Lexington Orthopaedic Associates are accepting new patients in all age groups treating a variety of bone and joint problems. They are happy to treat patients with both osteoarthritis or degenerative arthritis, as well as rheumatoid arthritis and other related conditions.

The group is available through the office for fracture care, as well as Central Baptist Hospital in the Emergency Department and operating room for fracture care or surgery. In addition to Lexington, Dr. Ryan attends clinic at Marcum & Wallace Hospital in Estill County where new patient apointments can be made as well as follow-up from care initiated in Lexington.

He is a Fellow in the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons and is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons. He has an active license to practice medicine with the Kentucky State Medical Board.
