Dr. Andrew Ira Shulman, MD

Dr Shulman is smart, caring, very knowledgeable and takes his time with my son. My son Liam was diagnosed with JDM a rare autoimmune condition and Dr. showman has managed his condition and a very careful and conservative way. He does not make us feel limited on time and is always caring and conscientious. Also, if you read his bio, he is very intelligent and well trained. He is thoughtful and is someone with the right kind of brain to be working as a specialist for kids! Especially, he is very sweet to my son ! Dr. showman looks as sharp as he is smart. Overall he deserves five stars.

Dr Shulman is in the highest of my esteems regarding rheumatology at a pediatric level

Nothing but fantastic things to say

I took my 12 year old daughter to see Dr. Shullman for what her pediatrician believed could be Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. She'd been in pain for 8 months and had seen multiple other specialists before we were told she needed to see a rheumatologist. Dr. Schullman basically acted like my child had low pain tolerance despite the fact that her previous blood tests showed elevated rheumatoid factors. He said he'd run his own rheumatoid factor test (which he didn't even include on the lab slip he gave us) and told us to come back in THREE MONTHS! Meanwhile I took her for a second opinion at Children's Hospital LA. The pediatric rheumatologist did a THOROUGH exam and came to the conclusion that my daughter may actually have early onset fibromyalgia. She gave her my daughter a first line prescription to try while she ran some more labs and the prescription has changed my daughter's life! No more swelling aching knees, crying in her room with a heating pad, and missing out on… activities with her friends. She can walk up the stairs in our home without pain, her wrist that has hurt constantly for 9 months is mostly pain free and she is running and playing at the beach and going to the fair pain free when she hasn't been able to do those things for a very long time! My impression of this doctor was that he was arrogant. He seems more like someone who likes to see his name on medical journals than he is actually a caring physician. Unfortunately he is the only pediatric rheumatologist at CHOC. I'd go somewhere else if you have the option! He really just wasted our time.
