Dr. Andrew John Sulich, MD

Patient of 23 years... I KNOW I'm in good hands.

I am a 60-year-old woman who looks fit, but has had chronic pain for most of my life. Having been recommended to Dr. Sulich by my primary care physician, whom I trust and respect, I had high expectations for my visit, especially since I was told by Dr. Sulich's staff that the appointment would be very comprehensive. I was well-prepared and brought a list of symptoms, which he did not want to see. "Prioritize. Just tell me the worst one," he said, waving his hand toward my list. I decided to cut to the chase, since he didn't seem interested in me right off the bat, so I told him I think I have Ehlers-Danlos, since my son was diagnosed at UM, but no one knew what that was when I was young. (My doctors have suspected connective tissue disorders for most of my life.) Dr. Sulich immediately told me I wanted a magic bullet and that I needed to see doctors for each symptom, and that I was trying to take an easy route out. Puzzled by his response, I couldn't tell if he was joking with… me or serious, but as the consultation went on, he kept insulting me. He asked where I work. (I am a librarian.) "Does anyone even go to libraries anymore?," he asked snarkily. He then suggested childhood trauma may be causing me to not sleep well, with resultant symptoms. I considered that, as both my father and stepfather died by the time I was 14, so I began telling him about that. "Stop!" he said. "You're making me sad." (I couldn't believe how callous this guy was.) Finally, he told me to get on the examining table. He asked if I could put my thumb to my wrist, and I told him that I used to do that easily, as well as bend my index finger to the back of my hand, but now I have arthritis and can't. He manipulated my elbow and said it was hypermobile and could move in ways an elbow shouldn't, but this was his conclusion: "You used to have Ehlers Danlos, but now you don't, because you have arthritis." WHAT? Ehlers Danlos is a genetic condition; It doesn't go away. That's when I knew this appointment was a huge waste of time and money. In the end, he suggested a bunch of blood tests that I had just had with my PC, and which he would have realized if he had taken a look at my chart before the visit. I honestly couldn't tell if he was a jokester, on some sort of drug, or just a jerk. Doesn't matter, I won't be going back.

He has helped me deal with my lupus since last year and he is a wonderful doctor and I would recommend him to anyone that is going through what I go through everyday

He is a truly caring physician. Right from the first visit, he proved to us that our Mother's health was very important to him. I have recommended him to others and will continue to do so.

He really cares about his patients. Takes the extra time to make sure you are feeling better.
