Dr. Andrew James Sword, MD

I have been seeing Dr. Sword and others at West Penn OBGYN since I moved to the area in 2009. He delivered by first baby via emergency C-section (and I was NOT cooperative since I planned a natural birth and he was SO good about quickly convincing me, her cord was around her neck multiple times!). I was able to deliver "normally" my second baby 25 months later. He is kind, thoughtful, and listens. He talks fast, as I'm sure he always has more patients to see, but not in a rude way at all. I appreciate his knowledge and that after so many years still seems to care about me as a patient.

Dr. Sword is very friendly and personable. He has a terrific bedside manor. I have had many different concerns and he has patiently tested and discussed them with me. He has my complete trust. I am so glad I found him.

I have seen Dr. Sword for the past 8 years now!! He is amazing and the only doctor that I trust. I have had many issues and he has been there to help me out and explain everything. He is the only one I trust with surgical procedures.

My husband (a physician) and I ( an RN) took our daughter to see Dr. Sword for dysfunctional uterine bleeding. I found him to be very condescending. His treatment choice is contraindicated because of a disorder that resulted from the use of Provera and BCPs. When I mentioned that, he stated that this was his speciality. He then stated that her other doctors were wrong. He then dismissed my concerns about the side effects we had seen when on Provera and our concern about an IUD based on our experience with our older daughter. He then proceeded to comment on her underlying medical condition which he obviously did not understand. His comments were completely inaccurate. When we tried to correct him, he insisted he was right saying his wife was a geneticist. If he got his information from her, she too was wrong. We were very disappointed and are in search of a new gynecologist.

This was my first visit and Dr Sword took time to discuss all my concerns before the exam and had a nice casual demeanor that was relaxing. I am glad my random internet choice landed me with Dr Sword.

I think that Dr. Sword is nice in your presence; however, he doesn't spend time talking you. I always feel like he is trying to rush out of the office. I understand that he has other patients; however, with your first child it can nerve racking and many questions will be asked. I like Dr. Sword and feel that he is gentle, unfortunately, he has a few doctors in his practice that you have to meet with too if you go to his office and they are AWFUL! (rough, rude, ect) The staff in the Brentwood office are EXTREMELY RUDE but the Coraopolis office is great!

The BEST doctor EVER!!!!

Dr. Sword has wonderful bedside manner and is a very calm and patient person. He delievered my daughter 6yrs ago and then transferred practices to another health system. I have recently faced a changed in health care companies and was terrifed to think of having to switch my OBGYN. I was so happy to find out that I could see Dr Sword and a bonus was that the old office staff was there with him!! I was so relieved to know that I was going to be in the care of a MD I already knew and trusted! Thank you Dr. Sword!
