Dr. Angela Christine Bess, MD

I have seen Dr. Bess for a few years. First year I went, she had nurses working with her and was very helpful. The past two times (2 years) I have visited her office, she has had zero nurses so the front desk staff took my blood pressure. My last annual exam apparently came back abnormal, we later found that it was a false-positive (so she says), but she performed an endometrial biopsy with no nurse present, no medicine, did not tell me I would potentially need a driver. The procedure, it was SO painful I started to pass out. She quickly finished and had to leave me alone to grab me water, after she gave me a water she left me again to tend to another patient. You should never leave a patient that is passing out and still recovering, if she had nurses maybe this would have been avoided. I had to lay there until I felt better because I didn't have a driver! The frustrating thing is that I later found out I didn't even need this procedure. Do not recommend!

She closed her practice in Loudoun County Virginia, and didn't notify myself. Now I am struggling to get my records sent over to my new doctor...

Harrowing. This is by far the worst “doctor or gynecologist” practice I have experienced. I would describe doctor Bess as lacking warmth and bedside manner. She does not in any way communicate efficiently. She does not return phone calls when asked to numerous times. I once had to call an emergency line on a Saturday to actually get in contact with her. it should also be pointed it that it is also nearly impossible to make a call to her office and get through. It goes to a recording that I never got a returned call from; she’s clearly too busy. I needed a surgery and switched practices completely after dealing with deafening silence on her end, close to my surgery even, because she refused to return phone calls. It boggles my mind that a doctor would say that they’ve scheduled you for a procedure without ever checking in once with me to see if the massive procedure would be acceptable on a particular date and time. She then stated that due to me asking to move my records she had… canceled the surgery she never bothered to confirm or mention to me to begin with. I felt no choice but to move practices because I had lost all faith in her ability toward me as her patient.

She is passive aggressive. She easily lies to her patients and other physicians when she is confronted with non communication. She also, chooses not to communicate when it is brought to her attention of not communicating. She willfully ignores her patients; does not return phone calls; it should also be pointed it that it is also nearly impossible to make a call to her office and get through. It goes to a recording that she does not return the calls to; no matter the type or desperation, she’s clearly too busy. When looking for a gyno, Dr bess has early availability and a lot, there is a reason for that, no one… wants to work with her because of her demeanor, her lack of skill, her abysmal communication and poorly staffed hut of an office. I needed a surgery and switched practices completely after dealing with her, mere days before my surgery because she refused to return phone calls, answer questions or even COMMUNICATE to convey the DATE of my surgery, as for two weeks she simply ignored me and then passively aggressively sent my husband and I an email letting us know that she had in fact scheduled my life saving surgery and then abruptly canceled after we requested my records be sent to another gynecologist that may actually be a doctor to their patients. It boggles my mind that a doctor would say that they’ve scheduled you for a complicated procedure without ever checking in once with the patient in two weeks time, to see if a massive procedure will be acceptable on a particular date and time. Was there a surgery even scheduled when she only contacted me and got in touch via a snarky email letting me know she’d canceled all my appointments and a surgery I desperately needed because I’d requested my records be moved? I’ll never know, nor do my husband and I care as I would rather take my chances in health with any other doctor than get back on board with Angela Bess, nightmare of a person, masquerading as a gynecologist

I am finally switching to another practice after years and years of leaving my appointment with Dr. Bess feeling unheard and often just bad about the questions I asked (or wanted to ask but felt too rushed to do so). Every appointment I have had I have gotten the impression from Dr. Bess that she has better things to do. Every concern I have voiced has been dismissed. Communication is also extremely poor. I have gotten emails intended for ANOTHER patient. I have sent messages that have been completely ignored and that have gotten no response. It is so complicated to switch practices because it is easier to just keep going to the same one and not have to take a chance on a new doctor, but even just calling for my records to be faxed to the new office reaffirms my decision to switch. The receptionist answered gruffly and sounded annoyed when I asked questions about how to transfer my records. She did not even ask me why I was switching practices. I called the place I intend to switch to… to ask them what the protocol for getting new patient records is, and the woman on the phone explained it calmly and clearly to me. What a huge difference. If you are thinking about trying Dr. Bess, don't. If you are currently a patient who feels rushed, ignored, and belittled, it is time to make the switch.

Best GYN I had, great bedside manner.

I will not be returning to this provider. Very long story short, I was told I needed to get a cervical biopsy to determine if I had active or pre-cancer cells. Dr Bess told me that she would be out of the office the following week but would personally call me the with the results to discuss them and she never did. I had to call the office to request the results and was told that they would try to contact Dr Bess since she had to be the one to give the results to me. I finally received a call back from the office staff saying they never heard back from Dr Bess so they read me the results anyway. I had several questions about the results that the nurse said she would communicate to Dr Bess, but I never heard back from her about that either. I cannot believe a provider would have such a lack of follow up in medical care and it makes me wonder how many other patients this happened to.

Please ensure you have all the pros and cons regarding procedure. Dr. Bess has been careless in the past and hide behind "inherent possible danger" with any surgery or procedure. It's good no one has died thus far.

I have been seeing Dr Bess for at least 10 years. I have been very satisfied with Dr Bess. She does not deliver babies.

One of the best experiences - as medical appointments go. Dr. Bess takes time to talk to you to find out what you're experiencing She has a wonderful bedside manner, and she's very thorough and professional. Excellent! Wish we could clone her. :)
