Dr. Anita Duncan Wilson, MD

I had 2 trusted friends tell me how great Dr. Wilson was and that she'd diagnosed things other doctors had overlooked in their cases. It took 7 weeks to get an initial appointment but I thought if she was that good it was worth the wait. I have severe fatigue and many other symptoms that I wanted to get to the bottom of and figure out how to feel better. She spent a lot of time with me listening and discussing possibilities and ordered several blood tests and was obviously knowledgable. I went back 2 weeks later for the follow up on the labs and I could tell they were having a rough day. I waited over an hour to be seen. The triage nurse gave me the blood results and said that meds had been called in for a Vit D deficiency that showed up. She said I could just leave but I told her no I wanted to ask the Dr. some ?s. Dr. Wilson walked in rolling her eyes. I pleasantly said "you guys are pretty busy today aren't you?" then she said "I don't even pay attention any more, I just come in… here and do what I have to do until it's time to go home and I can get out of here". Whoa, somebody needs a break! She never said when to come back to check the Vit D levels or anything and only explained what kind of symptoms are associated with it when I asked. It was obvious she just wanted me to leave and didn't want to be bothered with anything other than simple sniffling, sneezing, and runny noses. I had several questions for her because I didn't believe a Vit deficiency could cause me to feel so bad and I felt I needed more tests. She kept saying further tests weren't indicated by the other results. I almost felt that she was accusing me of making symptoms up for attention because the blood work was normal for the most part but said the abnormal things were normal in "stressed out" peopl. Not sure how she came to determine that when she doesn't know anything about me other than my current health concern. I wasn't trying to be a Google know-it-all but I told her that I felt that there is something more going on based on some things I had been reading. MISTAKE! She sat back, folded her arms, and said "Ummmhmmm" with an attitude. The way I see it, A PATIENT'S HEALTH IS ULTIMATELY THAT PATIENT'S RESPONSIBILITY and I would think doctors would appreciate an informed person who is trying to be active in their own care instead of writing them off as a "stressed out" hypochondriac when you can't figure out what's going on. As frustrating as difficult cases are for doctors, they are loads more difficult for the suffering patient. I feel bad writing these things because she was very thorough the first visit and obviously has a lot of potential but now that she's WakeMed affiliated, she has to deal with their philosophy of doing twice as much work with half as much staff and the stress is negatively affecting her bedside manner. Perhaps I just caught her at a really bad time and once they hire another doctor she will feel more positive about her job but I just can't trust my health with someone who has the attitude of just doing what has to be done to make it to closing time.

I was transferred to Dr. Wilson at Apex Family Medicine when my doctor quit working there. I had never seen Dr. Wilson before, but the second I walked into the exam room she made me feel at ease and let me know that she had read my whole chart and had made herself aware of my specific health problems. She had already decided on two alternate treatment plans and gave me the opportunity to decide which option would be better for me. It was comforting for me to know that my new doctor took the time to find out about me and actually work up a couple of treatment plans from which I could choose. For once, I feel as if I have a doctor who actually listens to me. It has been quite refreshing! I would recommend her to anyone

I really adore Dr. Wilson. She spends as much time needed with you during your appointments. She will sit and talk to you for as long as needed as well. Im thinking about switching my kids doctor to her. The office may be no frills but its worth it!
