Dr. Ann Mckee Parker, MD

I saw Ann Parker for depression and ADD. I had recently lost my previous therapist, who really was a great help to me, because they abruptly were no longer able to accept my insurance. Finding a new therapist that accepts your insurance and is taking new patients is difficult and time consuming. So despite immediately having reservations during our first session about whether or not Ann was a good fit for me, I decided to stick with it rather than start the process over again. We only met via telehealth sessions. Ann has a PHD in Psychology, and was very dismissive of the counsel of my previous therapist and my son’s because they were “just” LPCs. During what became our last session I was distressed (my wife had recently been diagnosed with breast cancer) and I was working through some difficult emotions, and the discussion became heated. Rather than attempt to talk me down, Ann abruptly ended our telehealth session. I texted Ann immediately, asking if she had just hung up on me, she… replied “I ended our session”. Following that Ann made no attempt to follow up and check on me between then and what would have been our next session. No email, no text, no phone call. What would have happened if the session had been in person? What would have happened if I was suicidal? If you are depressed and your therapist hangs up on you, how is that supposed to make you feel? I felt that it was incredibly unprofessional, especially for someone who clearly thinks very highly of themselves and their practice. I found Ann’s frequent use of the phrase, “I know you better than you think I do”, to be belittling and insulting. I waited the two weeks before our next session, and after Ann had made no attempt to check on me, I emailed her to let her know I would no longer be seeking her care and I fired her. “Care” is not a word I would use to describe Ann’s therapy. Ann seemed more concerned with being “right” than my well-being. Ann was bossy at best and smug at worst.
