Anna Wess, FNP-C

Anna began her nursing career 16 years ago after earning an undergraduate degree in nursing from Waynesburg University in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. She has experience in critical care, cardiac care, and emergency medicine environments. She spent over eight years as an RN in Clinch Valley's intensive care unit. She earned a graduate degree in 2019 from Chamberlain University with a specialty as a Family Nurse Practitioner and has provided primary care and wellness promotion to the Richlands and surrounding communities since then. "I moved away from Southwest Virginia at 19 hoping to find bigger and better places," Anna said. "I found out quickly enough that bigger does not mean better." Anna is passionate about improving the health and wellness of her community and its neighbors. "We have a very unique and special culture here in Appalachia and I hope to do my part to promote its wellness," Anna says. Anna lives just outside of Richlands with her husband, Jerry, and their 13-year-old …daughter, Jayden, who attends Richlands Middle School. She has two older children as well. Her son, Zach Harvey, lives in Knoxville TN and works in the restaurant industry. Her oldest daughter, Savannah Harvey, is a Registered Nurse at Clinch Valley's intensive care unit. In 2021, Savannah's first child, Ada, was born and has given Anna a new reason to promote the wellness and health of her community. "I hope to do my part create a more positive, healthier community for my own girls and my little granddaughter," Anna says. In addition to management of acute and chronic conditions, Anna is interested in women's health and healthy aging. Outside of work, Anna is a published essayist and focuses mostly on Appalachian life and culture. She also enjoys cooking, listening to Jimmy Buffett, and traveling with her family.
