Dr. Anthony K. Koh, MD

Dr. Koh was always at least one hour late to the visit, in office or video. He seems to be a very alarmist Dr. Even if your cholesterol is with in the normal range, he doubles your dose. He refuses to say why via email, unless you make an appointment. I guess he wants to get paid for an appointment. He sent me to a kidney specialist because he said my GFR was too low and I had chronic kidney disease. I saw a kidney specialist that he had recommended, she said my GFR levels were ok, but still Dr. Koh insisted that I have a kidney disease. I got second and third opinions and they all said my GFR numbers were normal for my age and I also should go back to lower dose of cholesterol meds. I felt at first Dr. Koh was very good and thorough but later I realized that he is a rather alarmist doctor, which can cause the patient unnecessary stress and anxiety. I even asked him to consult with the kidney specialist and the other PCP that I had been seeing and let me know why they are giving me… mixed messages. He said he couldn’t comment on other doctors’ diagnosis. He sent me to the specialist that he recommended and he wasn’t agreeing with the diagnosis of that specialist! Very confusing and stressful. He just insisted on me making an appointment to see him. He wouldn’t answer my question via Stanford app.

I saw Dr. Koh a total of about 4 times. He was very dismissive and patronizing. When asking him to explain a condition to me, he told me my symptoms are based on stress and emotions. That was frustrating to hear as I had just had to quit my job and put my career on hold because my hands and arms aren't working very well, and all my joints feel loose. The final straw was when he put me on blood pressure medication. It increased my fainting and dizzy spells (I have a history of fainting), made my heart pound, my spine hurt, made me sweat buckets, and left me unable to walk up stairs or long distances. He wanted me to continue taking it, and insisted that those were not side effects and because my blood work was normal i was fine. It seemed like he thought I was experiencing anxiety. This was not anxiety. Overall, I didn't feel valued or heard.

If I could rate him a ZERO, I would certainly do that. My father is bedridden and unable to get in a car. Dr. Koh insisted on seeing him before he could order a hospital bed or wheelchair through Medicare, so we had to buy one ourselves. My Dad had been on Hospice, per Dr. Koh's orders, but was removed as he was doing better. We now have an emergency and my Dad needs to go back on Hospice ASAP and Dr. Koh refuses to fax the necessary orders until he SEES my father in his office. What part of "he can't get in a car" doesn't he understand? What part of "this is an emergency" doesn't he understand??? He originally put him on Hospice, why is needing to see him to re-admit him?
