Dr. Anthony Joseph Charles, MD

I have been under Dr. Charles's care for over 12 years. He has seen me through two major cancers with care and intelligence. He has always had a positive attitude but does not sugar-coat issues. He is friendly, caring and extremely competent. I'm so glad my other doctors got him to manage my treatments and follow up.

Dr Charles took very good care of my wife, and I am thankful to him for saving her life. He always explained things to us and allowed my wife to have input in the decisions regarding her care. He is very smart and up to date on all of the recent research and national protocols for cancer treatments. Most importantly he really cares about his patients.

I am so thankful for the care I have received from Dr Charles and his staff for rectal cancer. Dr Charles has always taken the time to explain things to me and answer any questions I have had about my treatment. I was a high risk patient during chemo due to a very rare genetic deficiency (DPD) I have that makes it difficult for my body to metabolize and clear the 5FU . Dr Charles knew exactly how to treat me. He knew when to give the chemo, how to adjust the dosage for my DPD deficiency and when to hold or stop the chemo. He also knew how to manage my side effects. Several times I was very sick and had to be hospitalized and he gave me excellent care during those times. I am a registered nurse with 32 years experience and I have seen my share of both good and bad doctors....Dr Charles is by far one of the best doctors I have ever known. I am very thankful that God led me to Dr Charles for my care. May God bless him and his staff as they continue to care for their patients. I would… highly recommend this doctor.

Dr. Charles has given my son excellent care and shown him much compassion as he endured his cancer treatment. I must also compliment him for his compassion he gave to us as parents in such a devestating time for our family. Our son is healthy and happy one year later! Thank you Dr. Charles! We are truly thankful!

It's very sad that I ended up with this doctor at UT Hospital after Dr Miller left. Dr Charles needs to speak better English it's so hard to understand him it's important to be able to under your Doctor to get to best treatment. Dr Anthony Charles was told by another doctor not to give me any more chemo due to radiation burn for 2 weeks and he talked me in to taking chemo 4 days later and I got worse. His words were this chemo is mild and I will be fine. I ended up very sick for 3 month and could not get the treatment I needed. Once I got better I tried the chemo he recommend and had a bad reaction and 2 weeks later the cancer grew in to my bones. Got more radiation and was told no more chemo. Next office visit with Dr Charles he was trying to push more chemo on me after I told him I suppose to wait for the radiation to ware off and all he would say is that this treatment is mild. Yea I heard that before so he set it up and I cancel the treatment the next day. Then I… changed doctor so glad I did now I am getting the right treatment I need. I was told later on by a doctor that Dr Charles is the type of Dr that will follow you to your grave with a bag chemo. I could never say anything bad about his staff or all the nurses at the cancer unit. They always gave me great service and was so nice.

I could not understand Dr. Charles english. Once I got Stage 4 breast cancer he wrote me off and gave me no hope. I changed oncologist!

Such an intelligent man. Lets face it, I want the guy that is smart taking care of me.
