Dr. Aparna Reddy Mahakala, MD

Dr. Mahakala is rude and condescending! I was a 1st time patient and couldn’t believe the way she spoke to me! It wasn’t until she found out my profession that she became a bit kinder. I will be changing doctors immediately! I do not trust her with my healthcare. I feel sorry for patients who don’t know how to advocate or speak up for themselves. She clearly has social biases and doesn’t understand how to be compassionate towards people struggling with diabetes. Never again!

Dr . Mahakala is by far the worst doctor I have ever been to. I came to her in a state of desperation: pregnant with a newly diagnosed serious thyroid issue, asking for a second opinion. She acted annoyed that I wanted the second opinion. Said yes, obviously I must have a Total thyroidectomy as soon as possible. 10 weeks after my baby was born I had my thyroid removed. Since her office was closer to home for me than my other endo, and I had a new baby to also care for, I decided to follow up with her after the surgery. Saw a PA first (fine). Then a couple months later saw her. She was rude, condescending. Told me my numbers were ok so all my remaining issues were either in my head or unrelated to my thyroidectomy. No interest in helping me figure out why I felt so bad. Said for me to go to gastro for my GI upset, derm for my hair falling out, rheumatology for my joint pain. I left the office in tears and swore never to go back. Thankfully found another caring endo who has helped me.

I have been seeing Dr. M for a few years now. I like her! She tries hard to make sure that your other Drs. and herself are not duplicating lab tests so that your insurance will not decline and then you will be charged. She listens to concerns, and she tells you like it is! She also gets very excited and happy when she sees improvement in blood sugar levels and weight management. It is very encouraging!

I am sure that Dr Makahal received adequate training in medicine, however she must have missed the training on how to be a compassionate and professional physician. Her people skills are non-existent - perhaps she should have become a radiologist or some other doctor that doesn't deal with people?. She is clearly impatient and annoyed during appointments (not only with her patients, but with her poor nurse). I will most likely be leaving this practice once I find a new doctor. Life is too short to deal with such a condescending human being!

I would not recommend Dr. Mahakala. Everyone has bad days but her bad day is apparently EVERY day. She is rude, demeaning and condescending to her staff and to her patients. She interrupts, rarely explains things fully and is a generally unpleasant person. Perhaps she would be better suited testing lab rats, considering her bedside manner. I will be looking for another endocrinologist.

I have seen Dr. Mahakala twice and both times I felt rushed and she has horrible bedside manner. I am considering looking for another Endocrinologist due to her patient manners. She was rude and did not really listen to any questions.

Dr. M. seems to really care about her patients. She expects to do what she tells you to do to improve your health. She apologized when she was running very late. Normally she is on time.
