Dr. Arnold Bruce Aigen, MD

The first time I visited this doctor I felt like i visited on a bad day because doctor Aigen acted very irritated by the fact that I was asking questions,. Fast forward five years and nothing has changed. I immediately got a bad feeling again as soon as I started to ask questions. Without answering my questions, he abruptly suggested that I do a quick cystoscopy procedure before I leave. I was hesitant, but I agreed. Big mistake! Not only did he place previously used (partially wet from wiping off lubricant from the previous procedure) towels on me, but he didn't bother to wait more than 30 seconds for the local anesthesia to work before jamming (yes!, jamming) the scope into my urethra and causing me a great deal of pain. I suspect that this was his revenge for having the nerve to ask him questions after he recommended medication that I was already taking (which he would have known if he had bothered to read the paperwork that I completed before seeing him.)

Fast forward five years and nothing has changed. I thought that I was scheduled to see another doctor, only to find out when he walked into the exam room that they had switched doctors. I immediately got a bad feeling but decided to stay because I didn't want to have to reschedule and I wasn't sure that the last time wasn't just a bad day for him. As soon as I started to ask questions, I could see his attitude change. It didn't seem quite as bad as the previous time, so when he suggested that I do a quick cystoscopy procedure before I leave, I agreed. Big mistake! I have seen Dr Aigen for a number of years, for two different issues. First was kidney stones, and later for BPH. I have always found him to be attentive and excellent at keeping me informed and answering questions. The treatments he suggested began with the least aggressive, and progressed as needed and effectively resolved both problems. I'm a very happy patient.

I went through a surgery with the DaVinci following a biopsy that came positive for prostate cancer.Dr Aigen was very aopproachable, and was qiuck to respond to phone messages left. He answered all my quetions and helped me get my condition in perspactive. I heard very good thing about his skills as a surgeon, and I was confident I was in good hands and being treated well.When one gets the C diagnosis, all that matters is to get the best professional help possible. This was my top priority, above all other considerations. I trust Dr Aigen to provide the best treatment there is for my condition, and other issues people mentioned below seem secondary to me. However, I have only good words to say about Dr. Aigen.

My primary care physician suggested watchful waiting when my PSA came in at 4 with an enlarged prostate. Somehow my increased urinary frequency induced me to request further action. Dr A.Aigen suggested watchful waiting also but was easy to be convinced to do a biopsy.The result of the biopsy ruled out watchful waiting. Since I had done my homework on the alternatives, Aigen and I agreed on the spot on a surgery date.Turned out that an earlier colon surgery made his task more difficult due to the presence of scar tissue. He assembled an excellent team with three surgeons and a fine anesthesiologist to get the job done.The minute he had got the pathologist report regarding the excised lymph-nodes he called me with the results.Very impressed about this man.

I went to Dr Aigen with a problem, he saw and immediately said I need surgery (btw which was a cultural shock to me at that time) without even listening to my story. No convincing answers, clarifications, no patience to listen to me. His evaluation was right . His suggestion was right. He didnt explain how it solves and why it is the best option.

I was referred by my GP to Dr. Aigen after he felt something wrong with my prostate during a routine digital exam. After meeting with Dr.Aigen and his associate Dr. Angel and really felt I didn't need to "shop" for a surgeon anymore. He has a excellent track record of success, and he can add me as another example. I had a biopsy (that he performed) and indeed I had prostate cancer (at age 49!) At my age, with a aggressive cancer I opted for Radical prostatectomy---Dr. Aigen did a great job on the surgery and 6 years later I'm cancer-free. Cancer survival is obviously a combination of skilled doctors and luck. but I can't say enough praise for my surgeon--he knows his stuff.
