Dr. Arthur William Menken

Is he still practicing? I went to him many, many years ago and have yet to experience a doctor quite as rude and unfeeling as he was. He hated that I was referred to him by an HMO (something new then) so treated me like trash. Glad I moved elsewhere!

I feel these comments are rating character rather than professionalism, he was a super nice guy, horrible ENT. I've seen Dr. Menken twice. The second time was for ear pain that had been steadily getting worse for over a month. He took a 5 second look in my ear with an otoscope, gave me a hearing test, looked at my teeth and said it was TMJ or impacted wisdom teeth because an infection couldn't last that long if I had taken anti-biotics. I almost had had my wisdom teeth taken out after waiting a week for the appointment in agony, only to have the oral surgeon tell me, my impacted teeth wouldn't cause me to lose hearing. After this I went to see a another ENT for a second opinion after the discharge from my ear got really bad. Turns out I have a ruptured eardrum caused by a worsening middle ear infection! -- Avoid Menken, he utterly failed me as a doctor.

Dr Menken not only took the time to listen to my concerns when I was suffering with severe sinus and throat issues, but since my visit was on a Friday, he gave me his cell number to contact him over the weekend in case I wasn't feeling any better! Not many Dr's would do this, and what he prescribed did work wonders.

Dr. Menken was referred to my 23 year old son by the ER at St. Francis Hospital due to injuries sustained during an accident. The symptoms consisted of bloody noses, X-rays showing jaw fractures on both sides, TMJ, serious ear pain and sinus damage. The X-rays and CAT scans we provided to Dr. Menken during his vist supported evidence of the injuries but were not reviewed by him. Instead the doctor felt his jaw with his hands and told him to loose weight. Incredibly that was the entire 9 minute visit. The symptoms continue and we are now seeking another doctor that will take the time and consideration to listen to the patient and conduct at a minimum a reviews of the patients concerns and injuries.My son has been in the ER four times for his injuries and we waited considerable time to see Dr. Menken until he returned from vacation. Their are two kinds of doctors. First there is the one that is attentive and listens to try and mitigate or augment the problem. Second the other that does… not spend the time with the patient and does nothing to assist; Dr. Menken demonstrated he was the latter of the two.
