Dr. Arun Mukherjee, MD

Dr. Mukherjee was our primary care physician for only a couple of years, which is probably best. Why? Two months after telling my wife her Cologuard test was negative, Dr. Mukherjee informed her he had read the results wrong and the test was actually positive. My wife then had to scramble to schedule a colonoscopy during which several pre-cancerous polyps were removed. Obviously, Dr. Mukherjee's mistake would have cost us months of critical treatment time if the colonoscopy results were different. We ask very little of our primary doctor: basic care, referrals as needed, and the ability to read lab results correctly. Dr. Mukherjee failed us, and we’re glad we are no longer seeing him for care.

I needed a referral for surgery. Dr.Mukherjee refused to provide a referral to the surgeons I wanted to consult, instead giving me one referral, claiming that that one surgeon was "his guy".He would not answer my question as to whether he had a financial incentive/kick back as to this surgeon.

Avoid this man. For one, he is insulting, insinuating I couldn't afford basic treatments (I'm a professional engineer). He is generally unreachable, is quick to prescribe, acts like he could care less about your health, and refuses to work with you to schedule follow UPS and bloodwork.I gave him.a chance, and he blew it. Terrible human being.

He is now at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. I was inpatient last year and met a nurse who worked for him. When she found out he was my PCP, you should have seen the look on her face. When I asked why, all she would say was “Oh, Arun,”. He is arrogant, condescending, and at times rude.

My initial impression of Dr. Mukherjee was not a positive one. I felt he was judgemental, did not truly listen to my concerns, and did not work in unison to help me reach my goals. It was more him telling me what to do and me listening and/or me trying to talk and being cut off. He criticized me for seeing a specialist for a condition within that specialty. He spoke negatively about how other doctors in my health plan treated me for certain ailments. He was highly critical, condescending at times, and arrogant. Most visits I came in eager for help and support and left upset. I believe strongly in giving people chances so I remained a patient for a few years. I should have trusted my gut after the first few visits. I have decided to move on from Dr. Mukherjee and strongly encourage anyone looking for a new PCP to consider what they want to get out of the experience before coming to see this physician.

My fiance and I have been seeing Dr. Mukherjee for the last 6 years. He is extremely knowledgeable about a vast array of illnesses. He always knows exactly what is wrong and what to do to fix the problem. He is also extremely honest and personable. He is by far the best doctor we have ever had and we highly recommend him.

Absolutely horrible general attitude and bedside manner.

Dr. Mukherjee always has time for me, responds to emails promptly, CALLS ME AT HOME to see how I'm doing. I am literally seeing him until he retires.

He is my PCP. When I'm sick, his office is VERY quick to schedule an appointment. Once, I had an unknown topical irritation. Prior to seeing Dr. Mukherjee, I had it examined by a dermatologist, went through unfruitful biopsies, with the doctors looking through books (in front of me) with no conclusion. Dr Mukherjee asked me about a few symptoms/conditions, told me exactly what it was, prescribed a particular ointment, and within a few days the condition subsided. If you ask him about any side effects to a particular medicine that you may be taking OTC, he will promptly give you insightful information. This doctor is a gentleman and a scholar.
