Dr. Arun Jogi Ramappa, MD

I usually don't write recommendations, however, I felt that Dr. Ramappa deserved recognition of excellent service. I was referred to Dr Ramappa by two former patients, who had very successful surgery and commented on his knowledge and skill. I was amazed at how quick I was able to get an appointment. I went to Dr Ramappa as a second opinion. I am 4.5 months post op, Right shoulder arthroscopy, reattachment of three ligaments, removal of scapula spur and removal of arthritis on the shoulder, with another Dr. I have extreme shoulder and bicep pain post op with a cold and numb hand. Dr Ramappa listened to my history. He did an extensive exam and showed me the MRI, I had brought, and explained what it showed. He diagnosed my problem and recommended treatment. He got me an immediate appointment to start my road to recovery. Thank you Dr. Ramappa.

The day after my wife’s rotator cuff surgery, she woke up In a lot of pain as the nerve block wore off. At 5:30 am, I called the office number and spoke to the operator. She took down my wife’s information and told me to call back in 20 minutes if I didn’t hear from the attending physician. After 6 phone calls, it is not 8 am and we have not received a call back. We are now heading to the emergency room because we have no other choice. My wife’s pain is excruciating and no one from Remapas office has called back. Dr. Ramapa, please fix this!!!

I visited Dr. Ramappa for a torn ACL. tl;dr - extremely competent surgeon who cares about his patients! I had a few preoperative visits before getting surgery several weeks ago. I only had to wait ~5-10 minutes to see him at each of these visits which is amazing, as I know sometimes the waiting time with orthopedists can be nearly an hour. The appointment itself is also not long (~10min) but I found that Dr. Ramappa answered all my questions and gave me additional useful information. When planning surgery, he walked me through the different options I had and the reasons he recommended a specific one. He even took the time to tell me about some things that would be useful for recovery, including a particular type of ice machine which proved to be really helpful. The operation itself was very smooth and professional. The entire team at NEBH (nurses, PA, anesthesiologist, ...) was very friendly and made me feel comfortable as I was stressed about getting my first surgery ever.… Recovery has been much better than I expected!! Thank you, Dr. Ramappa, for performing such a great operation!

I agree with the other negative reviews on this site. I had a terrible experience with Dr. Ramappa. I was in incredible pain when I consulted him. He promised to follow up with me, but never did. He also did not return my messages. His lack of compassion and follow-up was appalling.

Dr Ramappa performed a thorough exam and explained all relevant details regarding the anatomical problem causing my knee pain and restricted movement. Surgical scheduling was expedited. Surgery was flawless, anesthesia superb, and my recovery faster than I had imagined. He is thorough, technically exceptional, seems to have excellent clinical judgement, and provides a realistic assessment of the condition and options. I found him compassionate, attentive, wise, efficient and entirely trustworthy.

Dr. Ramappa has done three surgeries for me and all three resulted in solving the underlying issue. While some reviewers find him smug, I did not see that at all. His appointments can be short - he is in demand - but they accomplish what is required. Simply put he is a great surgeon. Go to a therapist if thats what you need.

I only went to Dr. Ramappa due to my ortho being out of the office for the week. I should have waited for my doctor! He spent less than 3 minutes with me. During that time he was not attentive and did not address my injury. He did a range of motion test in supine , then told me to go to PT for runners knee. When i disagreed with the diagnosis he agreed to an mri. MRI reveals a torn meniscus with no follow up appointment necessary. It’s extremely concerning that the chief of sports Medicine would recommend physical therapy without an mri or confirmed diagnosis. I would recommend Beth Israel sports Medicine, however would not recommend Dr. Ramappa, there are other doctors in the practice that are much more attentive to their patients.

I completely agree with other poor assessments of Dr. Ramappa, as I received the same arrogant treatment. He did not listen, had a smirk on his face when I asked him to please listen to me, and gave a bare-bones exam of my condition (which was diagnosed by another surgeon as a torn rotator cuff and labrum), before prescribing PT. Rushed out after minimal attention... felt like I was visiting a free clinic. I specifically made the 3-hour trip to Beth Israel from northern New Hampshire because of BIDMC's reputation and satisfactory prior surgery I had in a different BIDMC department - NEVER AGAIN!

I was fortunate to have a consult with Dr. Ramappa. He went through my MRI with me and was clear about what needed to be done. I was in complete agreement with him, given the amount of pain I was in and the acute injury I'd suffered. I was able to have surgery within 2 weeks and his staff were/all very caring and professional. The nurses, the anesthesiology dept, and the surgery team all called the day after surgery to check in. I'm almost 1 month post-op and improving every day. A great team and great doctor.
