Dr. Arya Nick Shamie, MD

I waited two hours to see the doctor. I was told by the reception Dr. Shamie often runs extremely late. I feel bad for the nice front desk staff dealing with angry patients like me. It would be easy if instructed by the doctor for staff to call or text patients of delayed appointments. Obviously, the doctor and UCLA spine center do not care about your time. I will find another doctor

I had pains in my legs almost always so I was sent for a spinal MRI. I couldn't understand half the words in the MRI report but there were eight appearances of the word "severely" and one instance of "completely obliterated." Dr. Shamie understood the MRI well and performed the operation which resulted in all the leg pain gone entirely from the minute I woke up in the recovery room. It has been two weeks since the surgery and I am healing well regarding the usual surgery side effects. My thanks to Dr. Shamie and his talented staff.

My 60 year old mom had an appointment today. She came in from Bakersfield to see Dr. Shamie. Unfortunately her visit was SHAMEFULL, based on her interaction with the office staff. She was stuck in backed up traffic on the 405, and had proof of the incident. The heartless staff wouldn’t even give her the opportunity to wait it out, while in pain, in the empty waiting room. She asked to use the restroom, because on top of her debilitating back pain, she also was suffering while in traffic, needing to use the bathroom and feeling sick due to the nervousness at being late for this long awaited appointment. The office manager had the nerve to badger her out of the restroom mid sickness threatening her with security. All of this happening in this large, quiet, empty waiting room. Heartless. Thanks for nothing Dr. SHAMEFULL.

I had back surgery by another surgeon a year and a half ago but was ultimately left with excruciating pain running from my back, down my leg. The surgeon at first did not believe I was still in pain, and after a few months, tried back injections to numb the pain, but which in fact did nothing. I had several MRIs but the surgeon was unable to identify the cause of my pain. After a year of barely being able to stand for more than 10 minutes, my family physician insisted I make an appointment with Dr Shamie. It was absolutely the best advice! Dr. Shamie looked at the same MRI my other surgeon had access to and immediately identified the cause of the pain. He suggested a surgical method to fix my back problem, explained in full detail what would be done and what my recovery time would be. Less than a month later, I had surgery and was out of the hospital the next day - totally pain free. My recovery time was minimal - in fact, my husband and I were walking around Disneyland just… over a week after my surgery! I remain pain free and am able to function at full capacity. I feel better than I have in the three years since I initially hurt my back. I have nothing but praise to sing about Dr Shamie and his staff. I have absolute faith in this man and highly recommend him. My regret is that I didn’t find him prior to my initial surgery.

I had researched surgeons, been to Mayo clinic and talked to many colleagues who are doctors. Many of my friends who live in CA know Dr. Shamie and recommended him highly. He is truly respected by all the greats in medicine. I had the best surgical result with him and was able to go back to my office and take care of my own patients after 2 weeks of recovery. His professionalism is beyond reprise. I recommend him highly...

I only wish that I have done in depth research on Dr Shamie's other patients complaints & not only red the 5 star reviews. So sad that a renowned surgeon can actually destroy patient's life . His very complicated ,unnecessary ,dangerous procedure has destroyed my mobility,marital relationship & has caused me to live with excruciating pain for the rest of my life. Sadly enough,this fabulous surgeon is way too busy to see his patient post op,Only in his office on 2 wks post op progress & even then,pays little to none attentions of my complications & very poor surgery outcome. He counts on his Resident Docs,which listen somewhat,but who knows what they write,then the patient has an X- ray & if the screws & bolts are in place then,all must be just fine. I am sorry,but dr Shamie's attitude was like ' screw the patient & her intractable post op symptoms " the X Ray looks OK. You must even when I told him that I can't walk since the surgery,my feet are rolling from side to side &… I am experiencing. Bilateral L E numbness & electrical shocks like sensation,biLateral iliosacral excruciating pain. Dr Shamie smiles& is ready for his next patient. I wish that I could turn the clock back & never to have visited his office or that he would severed my artery during the ALIF procedure & end my life. Prior to visiting this "" incredible surgeon " I was working & walking & driving. Now ,I am shriveled,bend over remains of the wife,mother & grandmother,that family finds difficult to be around me & watch me suffer. I am sure that he is talented Ortho surgeon ,but even the best,should be able to admit to the patienrqqs face that " he can't help me " Going on with a controversial,dangerous procedure & lying that the patient chose it despite of all the Negative S Effects it's against the Doctors Hippocratic Oath of " Do no Harm "

I was highly recommended to Dr. Shamie although I did see one of his collegues first. It took some time to get my files transferred so Shamie can see me. I have gone to 5+ surgeons prior so I was anxious to get this doctors advice. He did not go over my MRI with me and told me my diagnosis doesn't match my condition that I needed a hand specialist. I wasted another week going to one and again being told NO, this is a neck issue. Very surprised and disappointed, I finally went to the best of the best and that was Dr. Wang (USC, internationally recognized). Dr. shamie was nice but just gave me less than 10min and not go over my results, not professional

I was told that the procedure went great,much better then expected. I told Dr Shamie on my post/op appointment that I am in great pain & have difficulty walking after the surgery. He told me to just keep walking. I was told that Dr Shamie is the best among the best Spine Surgeon.

He has no time to listen or understand or review medical reports I waited for 1 month for appointment, during my visit, another doctor came and Spoke to me for 3-4 mins Then dr shaimi came to see me with he spent less than 2 mins He just does a quick determination based on facts provided to him by another doctors whether the patient needs a surgery If not, he doesn't care to talk He even said, hope we don't have see each other again :(
