Dr. Youssef is brilliant, witty, a leader and a teacher in his field. He is professional, welcoming, and he approaches his patients with a solution driven mindset. His appointments are productive, informative, and he gives you the assurance you are in the right place and in the right hands. He performed a craniotomy and removed 100% of a 2.5cm Acoustic Neuroma in 2015. No facial paralysis. I should have written a review a long time ago, but I didn’t. (I was healing, only focused on myself, and It was a lot). I am written now, because I do not think these reviews are accurate, nor fare. There is so much to share about this experience, but he is amazing, and I will never forget his care and the care of his team. Those that has given low ratings here, more than likely did not have brain surgery, nor was a patient for what he specializes in. (*I am getting ready to make a follow up appointment, just because i want to go over some things and get his advice) As I was searching the… internet, I found this site. I'm posting this comment because I am incredibly disappointed that some people took the time to give low ratings, based on categories that do not represent Dr. Youssef as a professional. He deserves 5 stars. If you were diagnosed with something he does not treat, I hope you find the right doctor, and I'm sure it is frustrating because you have to continue searching for the answers you need.... However, please do not give a low rating based on wait time, and all the other categories asked on this site, just because they created categories for a rating. Dont fall for the trap. If you HAVE been a patient of his for something life changing such as analyzing the course of action for a brain tumor, and/or have had the blessing of having him as your brain surgeon…… than waiting an hour+++ is worth your time.
Shame on those categories attempting to rate him as a professional, and shame on anyone for providing low ratings on those categories, if you were not under his care.
Wait Time- 15 minutes on some appointments, possibly an hour on others. And?
Easy Appointments- absolutely
Promptness- yes. and if the nurse or the Doctor is late, its because they are caring for other patients, which puts them behind schedule. Speaks to the time he spends with patients.
Friendly Staff-his team absolutely. the people at the intake desk, in my experience- they were wonderful. But if you did not experience this, it’s a University Hospital, they are very busy treating patients with care, and that should not reflection poorly on Dr. Youssef, his team, or the folks processing intakes.
Bedside Manner- Freaking awesome. When someone can make you laugh after brain surgery, you’ve found yourself someone very special. Plus, he takes the time to update and inform loved ones on your surgery and what to expect during healing.
Spends Time With Patients- 100%. If you have a diagnosis, you go over a lot, the what ifs, what to expect, and make a game plan. Additionally, If you have your diagnosis before meeting any professional in these matters, it is up to you to do preliminary research and be prepared with questions. And although it can be extremely emotional, this is something you should seek help with from support groups and/or online support networks. Its hard not to fall apart sometimes, but you cannot expect your doctor to be your therapist. (and by the way, I cried many times in my appointments, and never once did I fee neglected, rushed, or that I was over reacting. He gave me all the support I needed and more.)
Appropriate Followup- Yes, a plan is set with follow-up dates. After surgery the hospital is really good at calling you for reminders… But when you get a couple years out. It may be up to you to actually make a phone call and ask for an appointment. Follow your care plan.
I hope to take the time to write more about my experience in the near future. But for now, this site made me really upset and if someone like me was scared, felt helpless and needed care, I may not have made an appointment based on these reviews. *Do Not pass up the chance to receive care from Dr. Youssef. If you meet, and it’s not the right fit, at least you know. But he is amazing. Few people on earth have such a gift to open up a human skull and operate on, near, or around the human brain, Successfully!. I can say with 100% certainty that he does and I am forever grateful for his care.
