Dr. Astaire K Selassie, MD

Dr. Astaire Selassie is a spectacular physician who is both a pain management specialist and an anesthesiologist. Her bedside manner is warm and she is extremely perceptive. As befits a doctor with board certification in pain medicine, anesthesiology, as well as in anesthesiology-plus (meaning additional qualifications in pain management) she can diagnose and treat problems that would take other providers months to unpack. Working in a field that is filled with suffering, Dr. Selassie nonetheless maintains a positive attitude and demeanor. Dr. Selassie always has time for my questions and her responses are always insightful on target.

Poorly run office. Poor bedside manner.

Dr. Selassie's staff represented that she was an in network provider for Blue Cross, which was later found to be false. Dr. Selassie's office and her billing representative, Blanca Claudio, refuse to answer any phone or written inquiries into the matter and insist on collecting an additional $1,500 beyond what she was paid by Blue Cross.

I have been seeing Dr. Selassie for 14 years. There have been times that I have not been able to move because of my spinal problems. She has gone out of her way to see me and she has gone above and beyond to get insurance to authorize an MRI or test that I needed right away. Most authorizations take days, she has gotten them for me in a few minutes so I don't have to endure going home and coming back. I live in daily chronic pain because of the multitude of problems that I have with my spine. Yes, I agree that sometimes wait times can get long and that should definitely be rectified. But, because of Dr. Selassie I can function. I don't know what I would do with out her

I have been under Dr. Selassie's care for 16 years. She is an outstanding physician, very knowledgable and compassionate. I do always strongly recommend her to friends and family.

This md may be very highly skilled but she lacks professionalism. Also agree with other reviews about long waiting times. Perhaps she should put more emphasis on patient care than overbooking to make money.

Do not go to this doctor!! She is not focused.

First I must say she is a very knowledgeable doctor and knows what she is talking about when it comes to pain management. Now with that said the issue comes with the waiting room. And wheni say waiting room I mean WAITING room. My significant other goes to the doctor so I've sat in on many appointments. We purposely book her first appointment and on numerous occasions we sat in the waiting room for an hour then they purposely put you in the exam room so other patients don't see a packed waiting room. But you are still waiting in the exam room almost another hour.... Yes I said HOURS!!! Know I've had the occasionally doctor running late but EVERY appointment! That is a problem. Now when you go there they give you a number instead of calling you by your name. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I feel like she never knows who you are as a person. She only knows you as a number. Know I will say again she is a smart woman and knows her stuff about pain management but just be ready to sit!… Honestly she should give a consult to the family that comes in with the patient! I was in pain when we left!

Dr. Selassie is quiet, thorough, conservative, competent and highly skilled. Highly recommend her. I travel 700 miles to get to her!

I would never recommend this doctor to anyone, I left the office after 5 minutes of being their do to the in lack of respect for my disability and being referred to as a number verses my name. I was in extreme pain and I am in a wheelchair and in order to go to the waiting room I was told that I needed to walk up a few chairs, I informed the secretary on several occassions that I was unable to walk. She told me that the Doctor would come to me and complete the physical examination in the waiting room. This is not only a total disgrace but also a legal issue who does this? I was so disgusted I left after five minutes. Any doctor who is willing to do this is not worth a grain of salt.
