Dr. August Thomas Piper, MD

He was skeptical that my chronic PTSD diagnosis was really causing the symptoms I came to him for. "It [the PTSD symptoms] should have faded by now". At times he seemed to imply that my psychiatric symptoms were either fabricated or just character flaws. He took offense when I questioned his perseveration on the minutiae of my morning routine (he asked me four times and I gave him the same answer four times). I informed him that I did not think this would be a productive relationship and got up to leave. He threw my file down on the couch and all but shoved me out the door with some juvenile retort. Emotionally unstable much? As someone with a history of childhood sexual abuse, I was often not believed or the behavior minimized. Its painful - damaging even - to repeat this with a man I came to for help and with whom I shared extremely private information in the interest of transparency. His conduct is unprofessional and his ignorance is stunning. I am glad others had a more… positive experience. Its very hard to reconcile the man in the five star reviews with the man I met this afternoon.

Was once told Doctor Piper was "Old School" an old School is fine with me as he is a kind Doctor an those who mistake his kindness for weakness shame on you, as you whom abuse meds make it tough for someone like myself trying to get some kind of a life back! The drug alprazolam is medicine that does exactly what it should "as long as it is not mis used"! So if you are taking any meds that your mis using an giving this Doctor a bad name shame on you, as he has done on to me as I would have to him, if the roles where reversed!

This is the worse dr I have ever been to I was diagnosed back in 2000 by 5 different psychiatrist this man sees me for 10 minutes yells at me makes me cry tell me to write why I am diagnosed what I am I am adhd I can't so I wrote two papers he never read them . he yelled at me because they weren't long enough. this man has made me cry twice now wouldn't prescribe me my medicine that I have been on for years they are were addictive he tol me so what why should he care he said i don't see you shaking right now. then he told me I was making him angry . If you need help vital changes is not the place to go

Great doctor, listens but sees right through the bull crap so don't waste his time or you will be sorry. I don't have the time or the words to describe just how great an asset he is to the medical community. All I can say is thank you August.

I went to Dr Pipers office along with friend who needed to see the Dr, I stayed in the wating room for my friends to return from her visit....I was schocked how loud the Dr shouted at this patient ....the walls are thin and provide no privacy at all..... he was verbally rude and abusive to someone who clearly needed care ......no compassion and told the patient that her medication could be taken from her .....at one point banged on his desk and told her he was sick of her and did not want to be Her Docter if she did not do the things he asked of her ..... this was herd loud and clear out in the wating room..... why this man has the right to practice is shocking ! for this Doctor its all about control and fear and money , my friend ended up leaving his office and up relapsing ........ he not fit to be a doctor

Extraordinary pain following major surgery put me on painkillers for years. I withdrew using suboxone and then subutex that Dr. Piper prescribed for me starting about 2 years ago. Prescriptions required periodic visits to his office so after being established as a patient I could make an appointment by calling his office. The receptionist was one of the best I have encountered anywhere. Then Dr. Piper implemented an answering service system (he was too cheap to keep this high quality employee.) This required leaving a message and waiting for Dr. Piper to call back or call in a refill. Suboxone/subutex make withdrawal from opiates easier but there is still dependency so prescription renewal is important until one is able to taper off. Some stay on it for long periods because it is thought to be relatively harmless. My prescription was running out when I called the answering service about 6 months ago. I had a good reserve so when there was a long, long delay I was able to… weather it but used all my reserve. Dr. Piper finally renewed the prescription and apologized profusely so I assumed he had encountered some difficulty. The next time I was running low and called his office I expected better results but there was no response. I called again and then again. Finally I had only a couple of days worth left. I pled with the answering service to be sure Dr. Piper got my message. ---No response. I became desperate and very angry. I was able to find another doctor and get a new prescription but kept trying to contact Piper. Finally I found another phone number for him on this web site and left a message. The receptionist said he and his answering service were very unreliable. This time he called back and apologized again saying that, if I would leave another message with his answering service he would call me back without fail. I have left multiple messages since then and guess what. Yep, NO RESPONSE. I cannot express how deeply contemptuous I am of this doctor and will not stop until I have told him so.

During initial conversation this doctor used the word sh*t twice and the expression what's the f*ck several times. Then he said that I am initially really bad person and should seek help somewhere else.

Horrible! The first time I saw him his receptionist called me Stephanie and my name starts with an A. Dr. Piper creeped me out. The office is shabby and he said nothing that helped me. I felt worse leaving his office. The second time I saw him he lost my file and said he could remember. He ended up writing me a script for half the dose I need. When I called for a refill as he told me to do he didnt get back to me. I went 7 days without meds and found another doctor. Unbelievable. This guy is a malpractice waiting to happen.
