Dr. Avani Ketan Shah, MD

When I was a reasonably healthy handi capped person and pretty much already knew my needs when I saw her it was different..its always depressing when a "professional" doesnt treat you with care and concern; I guess I always told myself she must have a terrible workload and I probably don't even have any clue how many patients She carries for Manatee County. As time went by I realize that perhaps this provider just doesn't like me, you can't require someone to like you but when they're supposed to be helping you survive well you kind of expect that they are at least trying to like you as you are trying to like them. I don't know if that's the case with dr. Shah. I eventually found someone in the Manatee County Rural Health System that was a wonderful provider to me for years , very knowledgeable, very caring and very professional as time went by that provider help save my life and I'm forever indebted to him. But as time went by my provider retired and I was so happy for him and so sad… for me. I return to Doctor Shaw because now I'm a handicapped person with many underlying problems and needed someone who had experience with me. And I found that she had become even more cold and dismissive overtime and when I try to talk with her about symptoms and concerns she just blows me off and says things like come back in 3 months now go to the front I've tried two times to give her a chance but it seems like she doesn't even like me and doesn't even want me there basically the same result I had the first time around so I find myself in search of another primary care doctor I've never given a doctor a poor report or a poorer report but the truth is the truth.

The worst PCP we’ve ever had. My mom has been going to her for a year, and comes back frustrated after every visit. I decided to accompany her one day and was shocked at Shah’s poor behavior, rude and condescending tone and LACK of interest. She literally made us wait only to come into the room for less than 5 mins. She didn’t listen to any of the symptoms or concerns my mom had and basically started walking out. Isn’t your job to LISTEN to and advise the patient?!? We couldn’t even ask questions because she was so disinterested. Then she started belittling us for the type of insurance we had. I pay $900/month for that insurance AND she billed that same insurance $300 for our visit. That’s convenient isn’t it! If you want to be treated poorly, belittled and misdiagnosed all while paying for it, go and see this doctor. If not, spare yourself.

I have a lifelong chronic illness, which Dr. Shah is "uncomfortable treating me" for so I see a specialist for that. But when I come to her with other complaints she just ignores them and asks about the chronic illness that she is uncomfortable treating. She sits at the computer reading what the nurses have typed in during my visit with them (which is longer than Dr. Shah spends with me), listens to my breathing, gives me refills and sends me home. I've had six visits and today was the first time she's laid hands on me other than to just listen to my breathing (which is perfectly fine). She repeatedly asks me if I've had procedures done recently and then pushes me to get them done at her facility. They're procedures I really don't need and have no risk factors for. I've been sick for 25 years and I truly feel she is the worst Dr. I've ever had the misfortune to see. She doesn't listen, she doesn't give you full medical attention, she is rude and acts like she can't wait to be out of… the room. The clinic feels dirty and often smells. The nurses are nice, but checking out can take a few minutes. I'm switching PCP's tomorrow.

She does not listen well or present an interest in her patients. When I came with symptoms of concern, she did not talk to me or explore my records to find an answer. Don't question what she is doing or she will just refer you out. Will not go back to her office... ever.

I called on Tuesday and got an appointment for Friday. The staff was nice and friendly both on the phone and at the office. As it was my first visit there were some forms to fill out, not many but before I got finished with them the nurse called me in. When I saw Dr. Shah she was smiling and friendly, listened to what I had to say, examined me and prescribed what I needed. She seemed kind and qualified. I would definitely recommend her to friends and family. In addition to that I was in and out the door in 45 minutes.

This Doctor was rude and provided horrible care. I was very sick and she dismissed it. I would strongly recommend NEVER GOING TO DR. SHAH. Her bedside manner was horrendous!!
