Dr. Avinash Gupta Kumar, MD

I underwent a shoulder replacement with this surgeon, and nine months later I am in worse pain than before surgery, with reduced mobility and function. Post-operative care was very poor. I was prescribed the wrong pain medication, phone calls to the office went unanswered, and I had to go in person to obtain a new prescription. That prescription then had an incorrect dosage that the pharmacy could not fill, requiring additional trips while I was recovering and in pain. I also used the office-owned physical therapy service, which was not beneficial. The therapist routinely treated multiple patients at the same time, limiting individual attention. While I understand outcomes can vary, the combination of a poor surgical result, unresponsive communication, and substandard post-operative care leads me to not recommend this surgeon. I strongly suggest others seek additional opinions before proceeding.

This was the worst and most expensive treatment I have ever received from physician. After 2 years of treatment for what Dr. Kumar thought was tennis elbow (and never bothered to look elsewhere), it turns out I had a frozen shoulder. Pretty basic and diagnosed by a chiropractor. To make matters worse, I spent so much money for nothing and more pain. Dr. Kumar prescribed a $950 out-of-pocket plasma rich platelet (PRP) procedure that made things worse. Subsequently, he prescribed an MRI due to increased pain and finally physical therapy. The PT reduced pain until the therapist increased weight which sent me backwards. In the end, Dr. Kumar didn't even know who I was during my last visit. Unfortunately, I am still dealing with billing issues and errors made a year ago after calling many times to correct.

Dr. Kumar is a terrific doctor..EXTREMELY EFFICIENT . He is very thorough and takes his time and does not rush. Thank you Dr. Kumar. Cordially, Carmine Gerardi

My shoulder after 3 months is like brand new. Dr. Kumar did a terrific job, little pain and good follow ups. I am really glad I had the surgery - you can barely tell where the small incisions are.

Excellent physician and surgeon. Very serious during consultation. Detailed and direct about what to expect and what I needed to do as a patient. I had a difficult and involved shoulder surgery and was very well prepared for what I faced in rehab. My personal physician said that he would go to Dr. Kumar if he needed shoulder surgery. I agree completely. He was fantastic. I also have to say that the rehab center for Coastal Orthopedics was excellent as well. Completely recommend Dr Kumar and Coastal.

Dr. Kumar is an excellent surgeon. He operated on my shoulder six months ago and I am recovering very nicely. He came highly recommended by my neighbor who also had a shoulder replacement done 2 years ago. He was caring and authentically nice. He knows his stuff.

Dr. Kumar did Full Replacements on BOTH my knees, in '03 & '04. They're both great! I have talked to many people about their Knee repl's, and none talked as glowingly about their Dr's as I do about Dr. Kumar.
