Dr. Avis Michelle Carr, MD

I loved her, she delivered my son in 2016 it was very stressful. His heart rate kept bottoming out and he used the bathroom in me and she and vacuumed him out and got him out as quick as possible and made sure I was comfortable. They were talking about an emergency C-section and I was like I don't want emergency c-section and she got them out without having to do it. She put my comfort first

She’s not safe. I had a very intense rash during pregnancy and she couldn’t tell me what it is or how to get it diagnosed (it resembled PUPPS to me but she couldn’t give me any answers). This was excruciating and made me feel suicidal it was so bad. Also diagnosed me with gestational diabetes based on one slightly abnormal reading after she told me to eat a high sugar meal beforehand. I asked for a 3-hour test (based on the ACOG diagnosis recommendations and she refused, telling me to check my sugars instead. I had to pay out of pocket for the supplies for this (not to mention the poking myself 4 times/day for weeks and the emotional toll it took). I saw her colleague afterward and she was dumbfounded that she diagnosed me with diabetes and ordered the 3-hour (surprise, I didn’t have diabetes).

Dr Carr delivered both of my girls 2015 and 2017 at St Joseph’s East. I was sewn up after my first born daughter incorrectly by Dr Carr. My husband and I barely had intercourse for 2 years from 2015-2017. I was very distraught and it was painful during intercourse. I told Dr Carr at my appts during those 2 years how painful it was and that I cried during intercourse. She dismissed it and checked by hand and said everything was fine and that I needed to just relax my muscles during sex. Well..relaxing didn’t help. I still cried during sex and felt depressed. I ended up getting pregnant in 2017. I cried during the ultrasound when they used the skinny wand. That even hurt. I told dr Carr this abd again she dismissed it. Just relax she said. While in labor on sept 27 2017 at St Joe’s East the nurse working with me all day couldn’t believe what she saw. She saw a huge piece of tissue string going across my vaginal hole. It was way up inside and because I was going through labor it had… loosened up and come out of my vaginal opening. My husband and I were in absolute shock. It needed to be cut by dr Carr. If dr Carr had originally used tools to examine me properly at my annual exams this would have been taken care of 2 years ago. The nurse was furious this happened to me and I cried to her telling her how horrible it was to have intercourse for 2 years. Also she said dr Carr was taking too long to get to me abd other patients when delivering the baby. She said dr Carr waits to come to the delivery room when the baby’s ears are sticking out. This nurse clearly didn’t care for de carr. I wish I could remember the nurses name for figuring out what was wrong down there. My husband and I wish that we took s picture of it in order to file a claim against her. I was devastated from 2015-2017 when all she had to do was use the correct equipment to look but she just felt with hand and said you’re good. She didn’t listen to me. The nurse showed her and dr Carr looked mortified and cut the skin off. The nurse said she was suprised that I was able to have intercourse at all. I’m able to have intercourse comfortably now thank goodness. Dr Carr comes off as really sweet and polite and I trusted her. After this I lost all trust avd I think back of all the times she didn’t listen to me.

I will never visit st Joseph east women's hospital or dr Carr again. She had no knowledge of what is medically necessary. It took 1 month to hear back about how she coded a procedure and now I am stuck with a 700$ bill thanks to her negligence and lack of care and compassion. She wouldn't even talk to the office manager, Pam who is also awful by the way, and sent just her nurse to talk to Pam. I am disgusted with how flippantly they acted over a 700$ bill. I made it clear that my insurance said it would only be covered if medically necessary and she assured me that it would be billed as such and now I'm stuck with an exorbenant bill. She and her office staff acted like 700$ was a joke and did not act professionally let alone it taking her a month to not even do her job. Never go to this hospital or dr. Carr.
