Dr. Avis Diane Turner, MD

Dr. Turner was a Government provider at the time I saw her. I thought I had found a long-term primary care doctor. There was no altercation amongst us; she wasn't rude or anything. However, I went to her without certain complications. After I left her, I started having complications from a pap procedure. I will not get into specifics, but I decided not to date or have sexual contact with anyone because of what she did. To be on the safe side and look out for the safety of someone else. Therefore, I never returned. Present-day, I was told by someone that she refused to be her patient for whatever personal reasons. I thought to myself, now I know good and well this lady didn't do the obvious as to what's been terrible history at the Murfreesboro VA for years. I thought she was a woman of God. Not a sheep in wolf's clothing.

Dr. Turner is my primary care provider and I cannot say enough good things about her. She spends time getting to know her patients. She is a truly compassionate healthcare provider. Very knowledgeable but if she does not know an answer, will call the appropriate people to get you the help you need.

The only reason I am giving one star is because the nurse. I was in tears by the end of my appointment with Dr. Turner. She was rude, judgemental, and basically refused to treat me because she didn't like my lifestyle choices. She told me to change something and then she would help. It had nothing to do with why I was there. Also, every time I have seen her she can barely keep her eyes open. She talks with a slur. I think she may be on something. After my appointment, I left feeling like I was the most worthless person in the world who was ruining her life with every decision I made. The nurse came in and saw me and asked what was going on. When I told her, she was furious and said I am not the first patient to have the same problem with Dr. Turner. I tried to file a complaint and even called my social worker but nothing was ever done and I never got a call back. I have not been back to see her since and that was over a year ago. Here I am today having issues and I have major anxiety… about having to go see her just to get a referral. I tried to get a new doctor but again nobody has gotten in touch with me about my requests and concerns. I came to her for help not to turn me away until I "proved" myself worthy of her help. I have never felt so judged.

although I am not quite sure I got a thorough diagnosis as to what my ailment was. I was told that she would make an appointment with another doctor for me to see as well. When she called back with my test results a week later, I asked if the appointment had been made and she said "Oh, ok. I will do that now." It was around the holidays at that point. Then when it was time for my follow up appointment, I showed up and there was one other patient in the office with me. They took me back for blood pressure, weight, etc and then sent me into an exam room where I waited for over an hour. I could hear her walking in and out of other patient rooms while I waited. Keep in mind there was only one other patient there when I arrived. So after waiting an hour in the room I left. I was told that she would be with me shortly, however I had already been at my appointment for an hour and a half and needed to get to work. I will not be going back to her office.

Dr. Turner is thorough in her referrals. However she is very religious and that put me on edge. I have an IUC and she expressed her dismay over it. She gave me a lenghty lecture while I was in the stirrups about why I should have children and how my womb was created to carry children. I informed her that I am not interested in having children ever and she went on to interrogate me as to why. She made me feel extremely uncomfortable, more so than normal in the stirrups, over her prolife procreation views. This is something that is a personal decision and I don't think any doctor has any business of quesitoning it.
