Dr. Aziza Tahir Shad, MD

I was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia nearly a decade ago. Dr. Shad worked tirelessly to help me into remission and again after relapse. She is the reason I am alive. After my relapse, she worked with me to try to reduce my anxiety and to get a 504 to mitigate my PTSD. I am forever indebted to Dr. Shad -- she is truly one of a kind.

Dr. Shad is truly a doctor that will always be available and leave no stone unturned to provide your child with the best, and compassionate care. My son was treated for T Cell ALL at another local Peds. Oncology hospital and we moved to Georgetown because of the many parents who told us their stories with Dr. Shad. They seemed too good to be true, but in reality, now that we are almost 7 years post treatment, I can tell you it is true. Dr. Shad cares not only for the child's oncology care, but pays close attention to their emotional state, while also caring for the entire family. Dr. Shad is one of many amazing people in the Lombardi Clinic, with the art therapists, social workers, admin. and others, it is truly THE prototype for childhood cancer treatment! My son was treated from age 9-12 and he is now almost 18. He still insists on seeing her and will probably for the rest of his life, because they are friends more than just doctor-patient. The bond and time that she dedicates is… so unique, it's hard to believe that she has sustained this attitude and love for her profession for 20 years now! I also have a special needs child with autism and Dr. Shad and her team helped us with him as well during my other son's 3 years of treatment. I am forever indebted to her and the Lombardi team.

Dr. Shad is one of a kind. Always has time for her patients and their families, regardless of the time of day. She is relentless in her efforts to treat patients and cares about the long term effects of their treatment. Her clinic at Georgetown is an inviting place where patients and their families actually enjoy going, despite the fact that they are going there for cancer treatment. Would absolutely recommend Dr. Shad.
