My boyfriend was under the care of Dr. Benevento. He was paralyzed from the waist down and was removed from the majority of his bowl regiment, that has been working successfully for him. She removed him from his original regimen of lactulose, a soap suds enema, among other things. Because of her refusal to allow him to continue with those, his stomach became distendent and he was unable to get out of bed to continue w PT and OT for over a week. He was in severe pain and developed a stage 4 bed sore, allowing his spine to be exposed. When asked to provide him with the medications and enemas that worked, she was dismissive and condescending. I then contacted the Director of Kessler to ask for help. I was then belittled in front of her staff and screamed at. At this point his sore had become so severe, and his pain beyond bearable. She then decided to wipe her hands of the situation and discharged him back to Hahenamann. PURE NEGLIGENT!!! THE ABSOLUTE WORST!!! She should have… been sued for malpractice so this does not happen to anyone else. I'm sorry I didn't.

While extremely knowledgeable, her goal is to get you in and out of the hospital as soon as possible, which she’s very good at, hence the two stars. What’s extremely evident is her bi-polar personality which is often cold, callous and arrogant. Once you’re out of Kessler West Orange, good luck because she doesn’t want to know you. And neither does the out-patient office. Move on and find another doctor on your own who is qualified to take care of patients with spinal cord injuries which is sadly almost non-existent Disappointed over and over again.
