Dr. Barry Grant Obrien, MD

Two friends and I have all had horrible experiences with Dr O'Brien at the Youth Clinic. He stands in the room looking frightened and unsure of himself, makes you wait forever while he tries to make a decision, and will not return phone calls (even if it is 3 a.m. and your child is in the hospital having a crisis, and he is IN THE HOSPITAL on the next floor, not involved in another case), will charge you for a Level 5 office visit just because it took him forever to make a decision, make the wrong calls about having a child seen and having him admitted, and generally be incompetent, very slow to respond or totally ignore you, and worse yet - not care. I can accept mistakes and ignorance if the doctor cares and is trying to improve his skills, but plain carelessness and unresponsiveness when on call is not OK. Many complaints have been filed on him and I am waiting for them to fire him. Twice recently a friend and I have had a second doctor basically undo everything that O'Brien… did, and our children began to improve within two days, after lingering with infections for two WEEKS under O'Brien (one was a basic ear infection!).

Dr. O'Brien is the best pediatrician in Northern Colorado. He takes the time to actually get to know you and your children....and also remembers you at your next visit! He is caring and very supportive. Both of my sons are not circumcised and he was very supportive and never pushed the issue. He calmed my fears when my second baby was in the NICU when nobody else would answer my questions. And, he was supportive of me when we had our third son at home for a planned homebirth. He has always called to check in when ANY of my kids were seen by him for sickness. I just can't say enough good things about him.
