Dr. Barry Stephen Taney, MD

Dr. Taney treated me for a retinal problem but gave me an ineffective treatment --- eye injections. When the treatment failed to provide adequate results, he simply continued giving me the same treatment. This went on for a long period of time. Finally, I realized that I should change course, so I sought care from a different ophthalmologist, one who ultimately gave me laser surgery, which restored my vision in the affected eye. Dr. Taney seems to prefer eye injections for treating retinal problems. The injections took him only a few minutes, and then his practice billed my insurer for surgery even though I only had injections. That's shady at best.

THE BEST DOCTOR! 6 years ago, Dr. Taney performed emergency lazar surgery for my sudden and extensive retinal tears, and through the years, he’s expertly managed and remedied every eye issue as they occurred. When diagnosed with a macular hole requiring surgery, the only reason I wasn’t completely terrified was that I truly believed I was in the best hands with Dr. Taney. This sense of trust got me through the entire ordeal including the face-down recovery. The surgery was a success, with an even better outcome than we hoped for. I know I will have to deal with eye issues as they arise but feel safe and secure with Dr. Taney and his extremely professional and efficient staff at The Retina Group of Florida. Dr. Taney is the most professional individual I have encountered in my 66 years. He is effective, thorough, forthright and compassionate. In just over three months, I have experienced tremendous improvement with my macular degeneration. His staff is friendly and efficient as well.

Dr. Taney has operated on both of my eyes, the first one approximately 13 years ago. At that time, I was 30 years old when I has a major retinal tear. Had it not been for Dr. Taney's fast action in getting me to surgery, and the magic he performed there, I would likely be blind in that eye (I am 20/40 in that eye with corrective lenses). Five years later my other retina detached as well, and once again Dr. Taney did his thing and that one is 20/20 with glasses. After years of follow up visits I've had to further issues, and I credit my ability to see and function normally to Taney. In dozens of follow up visits I've gotten to know his staff well, and they are, for the most part, fantastic. Dr. Taney takes a while to get to know and warm up to, but he's a great guy and really takes time with his patients. If you need a retina specialist in S. FL, Taney is your man.

Dr. Taney restored the sight in my good eye and stopped the degeneration in my other eye. I got my life back and will be eternally grateful to him.
