Dr. Ben Wade Thrower, MD

Dr. Thrower is a remarkable physician who possesses a unique blend of medical expertise and interpersonal skills. He listens attentively to his patients, addressing their concerns and providing clear explanations of his diagnoses and treatment plans. I have been a patient of Dr. Thrower's for almost 25 years, during which he has consistently demonstrated a deep understanding of my medical needs and a commitment to delivering high-quality care. One of the hallmarks of his approach is his ability to engage fully with his patients, avoiding the use of electronic devices during consultations and instead focusing on direct communication and observation. This approach has enabled him to identify and address potential health issues related to multiple sclerosis. He has been a great asset in my journey with MS.

I've been seeing Dr. Thrower since right after my MS diagnosis 10 years ago. On my way to receive the results of an MRI confirming that I have MS, a close friend mentioned how pleased her son-in-law was with the care he was receiving for MS from Dr. Thrower. When the diagnosing neurologist offered a referral to Shepherd for a second opinion I jumped on it. Dr. Thrower was prompt to my appointment, listened to my thoughts, and spent all the time needed to formulate a course of treatment and answer the questions I had. I couldn't be happier with the care I receive from Dr. Thrower and the rest of the team at MS Center at Shepherd, and I cannot recommend him enough!

Dr. Ben Thrower is knowledgeable, explains everything clearly and answers all questions without rushing me. In addition to his impressive intelligence, he is sincerely caring; he listens! Oh, an FSU fan makes him even more impressive (no kidding)! I am a researcher and he appreciate and gives honest advice about my conservative medical choices. I could not have been blessed with a better Neurologist.

I was diagnosed in Nov 2005 with MS at the Shepherd Center. I have always been treated with the utmost respect from the front desk at check in to the nurses that take special care to always make sure my IV goes in the first time. We know the best place and they always listen to me. Today Raven took such good care of me as always she is kind and sweet and she listens. She asks can she do anything for me and would I like a blanket. She checks on me while my infusion is going on and she asks would I like the curtain drawn and the lights off or on. They really care about the patient and it is all the nurses. They all follow this ritual of putting the patient first and are there to make our lives so much easier. When I say I go to get my Infusion or go to see Dr Thrower, I don’t think of it as a chore or somewhere I don’t want to be. I think of it as visiting with family because they are family to me. My Dr. Ben Thrower is the most amazing Dr ever. He has followed my MS making sure to talk… with me about any concerns I have. He follows my labs and MRI’s and my disease and he has put me on Tysabri in which today was my 138th infusion. In the past I had taken copaxone but when my MS was not doing as good as it should he put me on Tysabri and it is a miracle drug to me. Every visit I have with him he talks to me about any updates about Tysabri and other meds that are out and we make the decisions together. He has me on the best drug. He is caring and kind and just like the nurses, he feels like my family. I trust him in his knowledge and his fight against MS. I always feel I can talk with him about any symptom or issue I am having and I get clear information. I am very blessed to have such an amazing team of nurses and Dr Thrower and Colby. They truly take good care of me and I know they are taking care of all of their patients. You will not find a better place or better Dr and nurses in this world to take care of you. I highly recommend giving the Shepherd center a shot. You will not be disappointed and what amazing things they can do to help you.

Top Notch Doctor !! My journey with Dr.Thrower began in 2011.. what a massive blessing!! With his knowledge .. he found the right DMT for my body to treat MS.. has the road always been the easiest.. no, ! YET his kindness , patience, understanding, consideration have been unwavering.. I’m very thankful for he and his caring staff ! The nurses in the infusion center are top notch as well ! Kudos to the best MS neuro !!

Dr Thrower has the best bedside manner, and is very knowledgeable. He treats everyone with respect, and is inspiring to the MS patients and their families.

I’ve been seeing Dr.Ben Thrower for almost 20 years now…and through this time he’s always guided me through the treatments I have selected for myself..Never once did he say try this or do that, it was always my decision which is very rare for a neurologist as from my experience most suffer from a god complex..lol Dr. Thrower is I’m my opinion the most capable, willing to actually listen to you and offer his advice and takes into account your own knowledge concerning your topic and then helps come up with you a solution that you BOTH come up with…This is what I like mostly about the good “Doc” he understands that Everyone is a genius in their own special way….I couldn’t recommend Dr. Thrower enough, I’ve been living with MS for almost 20 years and people still don’t believe that I have it….that’s why I always say, Yes I do have MS, but MS doesn’t have me!!!

Not only the best neurologist, but the best doctor I have ever met. He always takes time to listen, address your concerns, and use the best treatment available. He has dramatically impacted my life.

My daughter was diagnosed in 2008 with MS. We drive from South Louisiana to Atlanta twice a year since 2012 to see her favorite doctor!! Her local neuro ran out of options for her as she kept progressing, he needed help. Our family met Dr Ben Thrower and his family as he was a speaker on an MS Cruise. On a beach excursion God had His plan! We sat next to each other on the beach and my daughter and Dr Ben order a Painkiller! We all started talking and he was listening. He said he would take her on as a patient and we have been traveling to see him and do her treatments ever since then. Dr Ben Thrower is the most knowledgeable, caring, compassionate doctor my family knows!! He listens to her and takes his time with her!! We are so grateful he is her doctor and would travel even further if we had too just for her to see him!! He, his family and his whole team at Shepherd Center are incredible!! He is the best neurologist we know and we have been through many in Louisiana, Texas… and Georgia!

Have been a patient for over 10 years and Dr Thrower was an answer to prayers. Truly compassionate about the field of MS research but equally about his patients. The first few years on the MS journey are scary and he was never more than a call away when a new symptom presented. He has managed my treatment in accordance with my preferences and while I cannot attribute this solely to my clinical care, I have been in remission for over 5 years.
