Dr. Benjamin Delano

I had Sigmoid Colin surgery and resection on Nov. 30 2018 for Colin cancer. I was thoroughly briefed about what to expect and how the surgery would be done robotically by Dr. Delano. My wife and I really appreciated the time Dr. Delano spent explaining every detail of the surgery even drawing how it would be done on a piece of paper. I felt very at ease with his down home mannerism, like I had known him most of his life. The day of surgery came and I had prepared myself for what I thought was everything but found out I had not. After surgery around 5 p.m. on Friday I walked from the gurney to my bed with absolutely no pain. Four hrs. later I asked to get up and walk a little and was granted my request. I walked from one end of the hallway to the other 140 steps one way, I counted it many times, and made 8 full laps unassisted which I roughly figured was a little over 1/2 mi. The next morning I did 20 full laps which I figured was a little over 3 mi. all of this unassisted and at all… times with no pain whatsoever. I never did have any pain except some slight muscle pain which was very minimal this was the part that I hadn't prepared for. Dr. Delano is a magician with the robot has to be one of the absolute best anywhere. Kudos to him and the entire team. As I said I had surgery on Friday afternoon and went home on Sunday morning and they even let me walk to the parking lot to get in the vehicle instead of wheeling me down.

They do good work just have no sensitivity to pain. Here is a seven inch incision and take two aspirin highly unprofessional and inconsiderate.

Dr. Delano is a very good doctor. His bedside manner is excellent. I feel like he cares. I know he's the best colorectal surgeon in Southern Colorado.

Its been a few years so this review is waay over due..Dr. Delano changed my life! For the better..l had a vaginal,rectal tear from giving birth over 30 yrs ago..the side effects are horribly embarrassing so i'll spare u the details..3 other doctors tried to fix it..but first l had to convince them there was even a tear! Just because they couldn't find it they treated me like l was crazy..and it was all in my head!..when they finally did find it they acted like they knew what they were doing and performed surgery on me..twice!..this is a very delicate specialized surgery, they went in did it wrong..everything tore out, l had to go the e.r. they didn't know how to handle me..when l finally got an appt to see them again..again they couldnt find the tear, they were supposed to turn me on my side and check anally not on my back vaginally...again their giving me ..the its all in your head look...so l'd worn pads for the leakage from the botched surgery and actually had to save them! Take… them in to prove l wasn't crazy! They just threw up their hands and gave up after humiliating me to the point of tears and mental anguish..they did other stuff l wont get into, like making me state my sexual history in front of a room full of strange men, while my vagina was exposed..guess l got into it...another doctor was really nice but at least he knew he was out of his league...his solution was a colostmy bag!! Then he remembered that Dr. Delano had just got to town and that he was an amazing expert for this...l went and saw him..he rolled me over and found that so called all in my head imaginary tear in 20 seconds..l cried..he said yep its right here they were doing it wrong!...he performed the surgery and my life after 35 yrs was finally normal!..and l never got to thank him properly...so thank you, thank you, thank you, infinity!...and to those other doctors, you shouldn't perform surgery just cause you wanna show off and pat yourself on the back..especially a surgery that should be performed by a specialist in that field..l should've sued all of you! At least publicly out you...hmm still might do that b4 you hurt anyone else.

Great Guy

Procedure was excellent. Able to perform robotic surgery after an open procedure five years ago. This recovery is significantly easier than the open surgery. I'm very pleased. Definitely on the recommendations list!

Dr. Delano is absolutely up to date in this area. He handled my medical needs flawlessly, and his surgical plan and skills made for a much better recovery time, and minimized my hospitalization time. The anesthesia guy he uses was great. I am 68 years old with a mechanical heart valve-not the easiest patient to work on. He took great care of me from beginning to end. Couldn't have been better.

Staff very unfriendly.

This was the worst surgical experience I've ever had. Pre-op was fine and the surgery was on time but the after care was absolutely ridiculously horrible. I had my surgery on a Friday, the next Monday my pain started getting way worse. It felt like an infection was setting in. I called their office and was told (in a more or less nice way) by a back office nurse that I didn't have a fever so I should be fine and to give it another day. By the next day the pain was becoming unbearable so I called back again. They said they couldn't get me in until Wednesday. So I suffer through the night. Wednesday comes, my wife takes off work to take me in and right before we were going to leave to go over there they call me to reschedule for the next day. By Wednesday night the pain was so bad (as well as puss coming from the wound) that I went to the emergency room. They gave me antibiotics for the infection. I was (and still am) in extreme pain so I kept my appointment (that they rescheduled me… for) on Thursday. Over an hour wait to get in there that day (sitting on an infected and extremely painful wound in the waiting room) for them to tell me more or less what the people in the ER told me. On top of all of this, I'm in pain management. This means that I am supposed toto NORMALLY gets my pain meds from my pain management doctor, HOWEVER, I told my pain management doctor about the surgery ahead of time and he told me AND WROTE ME A NOTE that it was OK for the surgeon to give me more meds after the surgery. The surgeon wrote for a bit more of the same meds I was taking but it wasn't controlling the pain (once the infection started, before the infection started I could deal with it). After that they gave me something to last me one more day and said it was my pain management doctors responsibility. I went in there to talk to him Friday morning to talk to him and he's gone until Monday (his front office staff said that it's the surgeons responsibility to give me more meds) so I called the surgeons office back and told them that I need enough pain medication until Monday and they refused, saying that it's the pain management doctors responsibility. I'm so that this is so long but people should know what might be coming if they go to this guys office for surgery. They left me in a great deal of pain and it could have all been avoided if they would have listened to me from the start about the infection. Now I have a very painful infection, am missing a ton more work than I should be and to top it all off if I need more pain meds (that I have no doubt I wouldn't need if they had listened to me about the infection to begin with) I'll have to go to the emergency room to get them. In my opinion this place is just a chop shop. If you go through your surgery without any issues it might be OK but god help you if there are any problems after the surgery. I don't think I'll even go back for my final follow up appointment. I'll just let the emergency room or my primary care doctor look at it. I don't want to ever go back in that office again. I absolutely regret having surgery with these people.

Appt was at 1pm. Nurse rudely told me not to be late and to arrive by 12:30. I showed up at 12:15 to find a not taped to their door that read "Our door will open at 1pm thank you". Dr. entered exam room at 1:45 and I left the exam room to head to scheduling at 1:53 if that gives you any idea about how much time he spent with me. Was sarcastic and rude, not at all compassionate or caring about my situation. Did not discuss the pros or cons of surgery, only asked me to sign the consent form and showed me to his nurse to set up the appointment. Despite having severe and frequent gallbladder attacks my surgery was scheduled for 3 weeks out. I wasn't given an option to have the surgery anywhere but the fancy Audobon center, which YOU pay for through a facility fee. When I got home I spoke with my regular physician who was outraged at my crappy treatment and advised me to see someone else. I gave this physician a 2 star rating for Follows Up After Visit because instead of making sure… I got a 7 day post op appointment the nurse stretched it out to 13 days saying "that should still be ok". Avoid Colorado Surgical Associates, they just want your money. You should feel good about who is slicing into your belly. Go to North Surgical instead. I'm writing this review on all of the physicians in this practice because what one does reflects on all of them. Based on the other reviews it sounds like my experience is the norm here anyway. Maybe if their wallets get hit Colorado Surgical will get back to patient CARE.
