Dr. Benjamin Bang V Nguyen, MD

I saw him because he was the on call neuro at the hospital. He was rude, didn’t give an actual exam, and wouldn’t listen to the patient at all. He just talked over me the whole time. Then he put stuff in the notes that wasn’t true but is keeping me from seeing a neuro as an outpatient.

Dr. Nguyen listened carefully to my symptoms and explained what was causing my problems. I was very relieved when I left his office. There have been comments on this site that Dr Nguyen is sub-standard. They are absolutely false. I have lived in Shreveport for 38yrs. The complaints about this doctor have the familiar smell of racism. The Vietnamese are extremely intelligent and hardworking, which is why they as well as other Asians, Africans, and Middle Easterners are beginning to fill up medical university classrooms.

You do get in quickly to see him but once in he leaves much to be desired as far as doctors go. He didn't talk to my husband, the patient...he talked to me his wife. My husband is quite able to understand what is said and can carry on a conversation. After my husband's second series of small strokes, the doctor walked in the room and told me (without checking my husband out) that he would be like this forever. Mind you my husband is not an invalid, just recovering from strokes. You just don't want in an office and tell people that!!!! We found his bedside manner very lacking and have been trying to find another doctor to take my husband's case. Everyone I speak with has the same thoughts of this doctor as we do.

I was wondering why he was so easy to get in with him and after I saw him, I could see why. Horrible appt. I brought medical records with me about my diagnosis and he argued with me about dx, said I didn't have this, finally said if I did then I needed surgery and didn't need to see him. I explained I knew I needed surgery but I was also sent to see him and he wanted to start me on a med that I had horrible side effects to in the past. Just would not listen to me, not patient centered at all. Took the script & left. Didn't go back and got in with another neuro.

Waited almost an hour for a 15 min appt. He was clearly interested in arguging with me over what my symptoms were. Wanted to give me a medicine that I did not want to take and he said we'll take this other med or I can't do anything else for you.

He came across as a misogynist - during the two visits I had with him he spoke to the man in the room - my husband. He didn't even look my way. He wouldn't let either of us speak. He dismissed any and all diagnoses I was given before. Moverover, he seems to concern himself with the brain and the brain alone. Autonomous system doesn't seem to exist for him. Overall a terrible experience.
