Dr. Bernadette Profeta, MD

Dr. Bernadette Profeta is not a qualified surgeon because she performed an ileocecectomy on me, removing part of the colon and ileum due to uncomplicated appendicitis. She did not say she was the surgeon but was part of a team that would operate on me. She never discussed other alternatives, the proposed intervention's risks, and complications or asked about my preferences. After the surgery, Dr. Profeta told me that my appendicitis was complicated because I had an inflamed cecum and that, in her opinion, my appendix had dropped into my abdomen. But according to the emergency room doctor, the CT scan with contrast made the same day before the surgery, the pathology report after the surgery, and the opinion of an expert surgeon, my appendix never burst, nor was my cecum inflamed. The ileocecectomy was not the appropriate surgery for my condition, requiring only an appendectomy. That unnecessary surgery left me with days in the hospital, a horrible scar, and many health problems.
