She suggested a non-medically necessary episiotomy while I was in labor. I suspect it was because she was tired of being in the room and just wanted the baby out. When I said no she dropped it, but I was surprised that she brought it up at all, as it's my (and my Ob-Gyn's) understanding that current research shows that tearing naturally is better for recovery. Not great bedside manner and seemed grumpy while stitching me up (I was grumpy too!). I had a fairly straightforward delivery in the middle of the night so I can't comment on her abilities in an emergency or when well-rested, but I won't go back to Kaiser Redwood City if I have another baby. One downside to Kaiser is you don't get your doctor when you go into labor, you just get whoever is on duty. I didn't go in with a Doula and I would recommend that to any first time moms who are using Kaiser, as I think it would have been helpful for me.
