Dr. Birendra Sah Kumar, MD

I agree with a previous writer that one has to manage one's own care with Kumar. I see him at M Health Fairview Cancer Center – Edina. I do not know if he is up-to-date on his knowledge and wonder if he is just coasting into retirement. I do have a treatment plan that is currently working with my anemia. The staff at this Center play the blame game for lack of follow-up in care management. Such a work culture, in my observations, starts at the top of an organization. I have learned to communicate through the message board so there is a written documentation of staff communications, or lack thereof. I have learned to ask that two nurses not give me my injections because of the size of the bruises they leave. I have called Medicare because of billing problems and when Medicare staff volunteered to tutor Center staff on how to code treatments (since Center staff had changed their coding on my ongoing treatment), the Center staff refused to call Medicare. I am exploring… other treatments centers in my area.

Was treated by him for blood cancer. Called him after a friend expressed extreme concern over how high my blood pressure had been & for how long it had been high. He agreed it was dangerous and told me to see my cardiologist or go to ER immediately - he was monitoring my BP with no concerns for months! My PA diagnosed blood cancer, he agreed, and I began treatment, but he failed to notice the second blood cancer while I was under his care! Thank heavens I fired him and selected a new hematologist who immediately put me on chemo. My son wants me to sue for malpractice due to poor care - I just want to focus on getting healthy. Beware - you have to manage your own care with him - he doesn’t pay attention!!
