Dr. Bonnie Lee Bermas, MD

The number one question anyone should ask a rheumotologist is how many of their patients go into remission. Getting ignored will not help anyone get the best care available.

Dr Bermas is extremely competent, cared for my issues expediously. She explained why I am having the issues and how she can help me resolve them. .. and she has done that. Thank You Dr. Bermas

Has all the qualifications on paper but bedside manner lacking. Came in. Very brief conversation. Said put on gown I'll be right back to examine you. Took longer to put on the gown than the exam took ? Put hands out. Put hands over head. OK I don't think you have Arthritis. The End ! It's reall SAD. Expected much BETTER from UT Southwestern.

I went to see Dr. Bermas because I had a positive lupus test and I was told that she was an expert in this area. I had some reservations about seeing based upon some of the reviews that I read but was pleasantly surprised. Dr. Bermas asked me a lot of questions about my health and my symptoms. She then examined me and looked over my blood tests. After this, she explained to me that she did not think that I had lupus based on her evaluation of my symptoms and my exam and blood tests. She explained that lupus can be tricky to diagnose and that while 1 in 5 people have a positive lupus test, only 1-2 in 100 of people with a positive lupus test actually have lupus. She took the time to explain that people can have a positive lupus test with other illnesses such as thyroid disease or after having an infection and that it can be confusing to patients to get a positive test and be told that they may have lupus. At the end of the visit, she asked if I had any other questions and gave me… her business card and told me to feel free to call her in the future if I get any new symptoms that I am worried about.

I saw Dr. Bermas today and had some reservations after reading some of the reviews on this page. However, Dr. Bermas was wonderful. She met with me for an extended period of time, listened intently to all my concerns, was kind, completed a examination and ordered blood work. She took additional time at the end of the appointment to review all that we discussed and asked multiple times if I had any additional questions. She also walked me to the front desk. Dr. Bermas is knowledgeable, top in her field and a wonderful person and Dr.

According to these reviews, Dr. B seems very polarized in her attitude toward patients. She was so indifferent to me and my current medical issues that I left her office in tears. I can only guess what she was thinking, but I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt - and consider she may be suffering from emotional or physical ailments herself. I hope that her chair makes a point to work with her on her bedside manner.

I can't understand the negative reviews here. I have had RA since I was 23 (I'm now 50), and have had four rheumatologists in those years. Dr. Bermas is the best, hands down. She cares about me beyond my disease. She is not "gushy" but she shows compassion and caring, and what I care about most--she is tenacious in finding treatment that will work for me. She is aware of the latest research, therapies, and advancements. As others have noted, she returns messages incredibly quickly. When I had a breast cancer scare, she called me right away, and provided the name of an exception surgeon. She has been a life saver.

Compassionate, kind and caring. Have been under her care for 13 years. Always available, genuinely concerned. Will always squeeze me in, prompt return of phone calls. Really understands the whole me.

I am 17 years old and recently been diagnosed with Lupus. I went to see her with my mother. She was very rude. She told me I just want to have lupus because it sounds sexy! What!? I don't know what is sexy about a disease. My symptoms are headaches, high ANA level, raynualds phenomenon, and hearing voices. Ever since I have been taking medication for lupus this has decreased. But right when she heard hearing voices she said you have schizophrenia. She was not that friendly after that. Saying that I am nuts. We started asking her why I have tests that are positive that shouldn't be. She said "I don't know". She continued to blow us off.

I have been a patient of Dr. Bermas' for 10 years. I have seen many doctors during the life of my illness and would not be doing so well if it had not been for her. She is the most caring, compassionate, and real doctor I have ever seen. She cares for me as a person and not just my disease. I would reccomend her to anyone, especially someone dealing with a rare disease who feels all alone in the world. She makes herself available to her patients and includes the patient's opinion in treatment options. I cannot say enough that she is truly the greatest. I think people are more likely to post bad experiences than good, so let these good reviews hold more weight in your decision to finding a A+ physician.
