Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:Midwifery is my calling. Caring for pregnant women and their unborn babies is my passion, my mission, and the way I serve humanity. This passion was with me since childhood, when I would would deliver my teddy bear's baby and attend the birth of countless guinea pigs and rabbits. The instinct to help and heal was always a driving force. Before becoming a midwife, I was an emergency medical technician, a paramedic, and a maternity nurse.What I want my patients to know about me:I came to Wellspan Health with a wealth of experience, having attended more than 1900 births in the hospital, at home, and at a free-standing birth center. I obtained my Master's degree in nursing at the University of Pennsylvania, and am licensed as both a certified nurse-midwife and a women's health nurse practitioner. I also write books on the management of birth emergencies, and develop workshops for midwives on this topic.What I do when I'm not seeing patients:I …am usually up before dawn, using those quiet hours before sunrise to work on writing books. Nature photography is a passion of mine, and I oftentravel to refuges and other wild places to capture images. These photographs often become reference images for my drawings and paintings. I live on a small hobby farm in southern Lancaster County, where I have two horses and a lively flock of exhibition poultry.
