Dr. Boris Birmaher, MD

It's so obvious that the glowing reviews are written by Boris Birmaher and the people who work for him. What a coincidence that one of them is in the same broken English he speaks. We were referred to Boris Birmaher several years ago and our meetings with him are my standard for how a doctor should never treat their patients. Like the real reviews say, Boris Birmaher is rude and arrogant, but much worse is the sadistic way he treated our son. My son told us Boris Birmaher laughed at him when he cried and said cruel things to him. I admit we didn't believe it, but on his own he took a recorder to his next meeting and recorded Boris Birmaher telling him that he would be broken forever if he did not do what Boris Birmaher told him to do and that my son's angry feelings about me and his mother were unforgivable and my son did not deserve our love! We came to this man for help and this is what he did. My wife and I were outraged. When we confronted him with the recording Boris Birmaher… exploded at us in rage and literally screamed at us that we had tricked him and were trying to ruin him. I thought Boris Birmaher was going to punch me. It was like in a movie. I reported all of this to his psychiatry board and even offered the recording and nothing ever happened. What a surprise. My son found a much better psychiatrist and we are all doing much better. I am here to warn everyone. I hope by using full name as much as possible that more people will read this. STAY AWAY FROM BORIS BIRMAHER. He should have his license taken away.

I am a physician and my wife has a PhD in Clinical Psychology. Brought our daughter to Dr. Birmaher after struggling for years with trying to obtain an accurate psychiatric diagnosis. He and his team performed an incredible comprehensive assessment. Dr. Birmaher hit it out of the park when he concluded that her previous diagnosis was incorrect. She is doing well 9 years later in large part because she did not carry an incorrect diagnosis, thanks to Dr. Birmaher’s help. Our family is very grateful to him and his team.

Hope you read these reviews before you see him. My son was seen by him awhile back as a teen and the meds did not help, he did not like side effects so he changed from one type of med to another to another that were generally categorized as for various categories of mental health issues, but it was just like spin the wheel and try this and then this. Of course, one thing you have to remember, it's not like the movies...psychiatrists usually have nothing to do with treatment other than prescribing pills. If you don't want the pills, you're gone.

My daughter has been a patient of Dr. Birmaher for years. He provides great care. He is great at listening to concerns, assessing the situation and making recommendations. I highly recommend.

Arrogant, ignorant, doesn't care about your opinion. Disregards facts. Not cooperative with your requests or suggestions, it's his way or the highway.

We have been struggling for 17 years with my son. I wrote 72 concerns I had regarding my son. Dr. Birmaher didn't read any and kept calling my son's physical and verbal abuse "crankiness". When we left he said we need family counseling and we should "cross our fingers" that everything will turn out ok. We have struggled as a family for years, and this is the best we could get? Shameful!

Dr. Boris Birhmaher was very smart but wasn't in his place to say some of the accusatory and demeaning things he said to me and my parent when he was assessing me for insurance approval. He had also tried to force his own personal beliefs on my illness on me and my parent.

Very helpful, insightful and caring professional. I took my son for a day evaluation with Boris and totally recommend him! He is very smart and intiutive and overall an incredible doctor.

Completely agree with one star reviews from 2011. Doctor Boris has an attitude of smugness that is intolerable. Gets angry very quick if you disagree with him. Told me and my husband out right that he believes he is smarter than us. Told us that HE is the doctor and if my husband wanted to go to medical school for many years THEN he would consider his opinion!!! We walked out. The good reviews below must have been written by him or his staff....... Your children need a more understanding therapist
