Dr. Boris Joseph Porto, MD

I originally went to Porto to get an antidepressant that was safe through my pregnancy. I had given up my drug of choice (I’m a meth addict) a few months prior to that and needed medication. My first impression of Porto was awesome, I loved the fact that he had experience with alcoholism which meant he understood where I was coming from and we share the fact we go to meetings and went through the steps. I had rebuilt a life where getting high isn’t an option. I’m terrified of relapsing, hence going back to school, went to therapy for a bit, and trying to find a medication that will work best for me. I’ve brought up changing my medication before but he convinced me that what I was taking was best and I was more worried about how I was still breastfeeding. Flash forward to a year later which is now, I tried to bring up a medication that I was prescribed when I went to rehab 2 years ago. I was under the impression that it was an antidepressant since it was literally written in my paper… with the prescription and the nurse even recommending me to get the higher dose later on so I wouldn’t have to take it three times a day. It really worked for me but I also had to take into account of the situation I was in back then and how it might not be the best option. I talked about it with my mom and my boyfriend and now I brought it up to Porto, not demanding or asking for it, I really wanted to be open with him and open to his suggestion. He immediately assumed I was going to relapse because of the effects of the medication. Yes, he made the whole appointment about me relapsing and I couldn’t stop crying therefore I couldn’t say what I really needed to say—psychiatrist appointments are really short, you would think maybe use the time wisely?? I get that addicts tend to go to doctors to get high off of what they’ve been given but being put under the spotlight of what I wasn’t trying to do was really uncomfortable and I started feeling guilty of something I shouldn’t be. I told him about my anxiety tick of picking my fingernails and I also told him how what I’m doing in my life is really good despite COVID19. He made me feel guilty for not going to meetings as much and that’s where he got super biased and self-righteous. I felt like I was being sponsored at instead of getting the wise words I need from a doctor to patient. I felt like I wasn’t being listened to about my symptoms and changing my medication wasn’t an option. The medication I’ve been taking I was prescribed YEARS ago from my primary care doctor and I had to switch because it wasn’t working for me. At least my primary care doctor listened to me. Switching medications or not, I’m not going back to Porto. That’s self-care.

I have been seeing Dr. Porto for years and have always received the best care.

I’m leaving a one star review because there is nothing lower I can rate my experience with. He prescribed me two medications, both of which gave me severe adverse side affects. When I appealed to Dr. Porto I made mention that one side effect was causing me severe physical pain, and without even looking up at me he made a dismissing gesture and said that it wasn’t his department. I consulted another Dr. who advised I cease the medications ASAP as my side effects could cause permanent physical damage. I weaned off the medications, but now I have permanent physical damage that will ultimately require corrective surgery. Dr. Porto’s “way” of treating me has had a major negative impact on my life, going to him was a huge mistake. I hope my review might provide some warning to others.

After seeing him on Th my husband was hospitalized on Tues for 3 weeks. If you have an extra 50 grand try him. Less than one star. Yo y’all misdiagnosed and mistreated.

I don’t know who these other people saw but he was awesome! He was so detailed and through. He wrote down every detail we spoke about and then would explain it all to me. These others must have been drug seekers and he didn’t give them the drugs they wanted. I walked out of that office just now not feeling discouraged or aggravated at another dr not listening to me. Wow! I just loved him and you will too!

Dr. Porto is one of the best. He always takes time to ask me questions about what’s going on in my life, and 3 months later at my next appointment will bring up something I said last appointment and ask about it. He cares about his patient’s health & well being & will always listen to my concerns. He’s easy going & there’s always a calm feeling in his office. I love how he pays attention to small details. The wait time is also very minimal. 5 minutes at the most & out of the door in 20 mins. I highly recommend Dr. Porto!!

Hello. I have nothing but good things to say about this doctor and his kind staff. I not only suffer from PTSD, but I have a heart condition that makes treatment tricky at times. He investigated my condition and understands, although he does not support my use of one of the medicines I take to keep my anxiety and thus blood pressure and chest pains at bay. I appreciate his professional decision to decline treating my anxiety with certain meds, but respecting my decision to continue with the medicine anyway. I am also ADHD and he treats me with compassion and dignity. Yes, I need medicine to deal with my physical and emotional conditions, and he ultimately supports that. I am grateful for his concern and belief that I indeed am self aware and trying to make the best decisions I can where my health is concerned.

I have NEVER been mistreated and disrespected by any doctor, until seeing Dr. Porto. He was verbally abusive, invaded my personal space, and screamed at me with false accusations so loudly that everyone in the entire office and lobby heard him. I felt threatened and had to escape as fast as I could. He unprofessionally uses his own experience with substance abuse to lash out on others. Avoid this man!!

Dr. Porto feels like family. His personality is a little bit quirky which I love. He is very transparent. He knows his field. He spent 20 minutes of his time while I was there calling different pharmacies to find which one had the best price for the medication I needed. He refused to prescribe Xanax to me, because of the side effects. (So he is not just a doc that writes RX's) He truly wants to the best quality of life for his patients. I am going on 3 years with Dr. Porto and do not intend to change.

Dr Porto does not show any concern for his patients..he definitely likes to argue with them..thinks his book knowledge is always correct with every patient..in which everyone is different..an if it's not his idea ..then it's not right...all he was concerned with was writing the scripts ..didn't care whether you were having any other problems..didn't want to hear bout them..He is very rude an unprofessional
